Hello Everyone,

I'm here today to show my small setup that packs a big punch, heh. Now let me preface you by saying I'm only 21, going to college and still living at home with my parents, so there's only so much I can do with the room I've got.

Speaking about my room, I'll tell you that it's 10'2" long by 14' wide. I know it's not a big room and I notice this more and more each day as I try to make room where there is none.

Before I get to the pictures let me tell you what I have:

Ln46A650

A midnight mist stand by bush furniture

Onkyo TX-SR606 AVR

Creative Gigaworks S750 (Probably not the best system ever, but for me and my uses I think it does great!)

Sony PS3 80GB (Old version)

Nintendo Wii

Creative Decoder DDTS-100 (I use this for zone two headphone usage on my PC)

A Custom PC (for gaming, no HTPC stuff)

Well without further ado here's the pics:

TV + Stand

Here you can see the TV, the stand, my PS3, my Wii, my DDTS-100, my center channel, and my Lego models

Front Left

Here you can see the front left channel, my AVR, my three guitars (Yes I like the game and no I'm not that good), and my copy of the Amazon exclusive the Tales of Beedle the Bard. By the way both of those stands are old with marble tops. You can also see my TV on DVD collection on the corner shelf.

Front Right

Here you can see my front right channel along with my computer setup.

Side Right

Here you can see my side right channel along with another Lego model

Rear Right

Here's my rear right channel. You can also see my subwoofer and another Lego model.

Rear Left

This is my rear left channel along with my small but ever growing Blu-Ray collection.

Side Left

This be my side left channel, a part of the messy part in my room sitting on top of the one thing I can't stand in my room, my chest of drawers.

Well that's my room. If you care to know I have a futon which is both my bed and my couch. Before you comment on the color of the sheets do note I'm looking to get new ones. Also I have this huge empty wall above the futon where I want to hang a poster and four lithos of the movie: WallE.

That's about it for now. If I had to pick three things I don't like about my room it would have to be the following: The mismatching furniture, my chest of drawers and the three wires (for my rear channels + sub) running across the floor, but I have no way to avoid that. Speaking of wires, do note I've cleaned up the wires since taking these pictures.

I know this setup very much pales in comparison to the stuff I've seen on here, but given my situation it's the best I could do so far.

A couple quick questions about my room. Is carpet or hardwood floor better for a sound system. Second, I have some stuff tucked under my futon, will this have a negative impact on the performance of my sub. Lastly, is putting the sub beside my futon the best place for it.

If you have any questions, just ask. Thank you and Happy New Years.

Sweet System I wish I had that TV in my room.

For sub placement do the following:

1st. Place it were you would usually sit.

2nd. Turn on a movie or song with strong bass.

3rd. Crawl around on the floor in every area of your room and see were the bass sounds are the strongest. I would first start in corners, then go along the walls. Keep in mind the worst place for the sub is in the middle of the room.

So try this and reply back if you have any luck !

Thomas,

What do you mean when you say "where the bass sounds are the strongest"?

Wow, it sure seems like everyone going to college these days has huge LCD TV's.
Back when I was in college I had a 25" CRT, and even now still only have a 31" CRT (though have had a projector for the last four years or so). I'm sure an LCD is a lot nicer for moving around, though!

I think you put the wrong link for your front left picture, or I'm blind. I don't see any guitars or receivers or Beedle the Bard. Do you have any pictures which aren't so close up, like the whole front wall or back wall, etc? It looks like you have some nice equipment, but I'm having a hard time picturing the layout.

Tz000 gives great advise for subwoofer placement. If you don't want to go even that far, the best location for a subwoofer is typically in one of the room corners. Some say the front corner is best for blending with the front L/R speakers when you're listening in strictly stereo - you can experiment with this, and results can significantly depend upon the crossover point between your satellites and subwoofer.

Don't worry about mismatched furniture. Everyone I know has mismatched furniture except retired folks - they seem to be the only ones who can afford to get everything matching. Plus, when you buy a house or get an apartment, all your relatives will be pawning off their unwanted furniture on you. That makes it nearly impossible to keep things matched, unless they're not persistent and you just say no.

I fixed the link for the front left channel. Also, I wish I could give you a picture of the whole front wall, but unfortunately that won't be easy. I'll see what I can do though. If I can't get a picture I'll whip up a quick diagram in my photo editor.

Anyways, thank you for your comments. Keep them coming,

Well, I did what I could and well here is two pics of my room.

Right Half

This picture shows you the right half the room. You can see my right channels.

Left Half

As with the last picture I am again standing in my doorway. This is two of my left channels. My rear left channel is right (no pun intended) beside me inside the door. As for the center channel you can fill in the gap and guess where it would be.

Again the sub is on the right side of my futon. I hope these images helped.

The guitars, drums, and microphone are really just for Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour, both on the Wii. I don't use them on my computer but I imagine through some mods I could.

As for the marble top stands your refer to. They use to belong to my grandmother and well when she passed away, we inherited them. There is a few more of them up in our attic, but none of them would functionally and purposefully fit in my room.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
