Hi all, this is not so much to show off my HT but to say thank you all for helping me piece together what I feel is a nice small HT on a modest budget. I'm very happy with everything and I couldn't have done it without AVS so I'm very gratefull. After I got married we moved back to my parents to save some money, pay off old school debts etc. now that that is done we'll be moving out soon and I needed to put together some kind of HT from scratch since we had nothing.

Our gear:

Panasonic 42" G15 Plasma TV

Denon AVR-590 Receiver

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Bluray Player

Asus N81VP-D1 laptop

Axiom M22 Speakers

SVS PB10-NSD Subwoofer

-----------------------------------------

I wasn't planning on posting pictures just saying thank you, frankly my stuff looks like ass comparatively speaking, but because of the nature of this forum it seems I must. Right now we are still in the cramped basement which serves as our living/dining/HT/bedroom, when we move the TV will get wall mounted and the Denon will get the whole top of the failure of a TV stand from Ikea all to itself, so it shouldn't look THAT bad (I hope). The axioms right now are on stands made by me lol
, one of the ways to stay within budget (another way was the ikea thing that doesn't quite fit a denon in it's shelf
), they'll possibly get painted, stained or chucked depending on what'll fit the new living room and whether I still need them. Maybe not impressive, but a good start for the money I feel, all thanks to AVS.

Dude.. Thank you for your post (with pics)

As for your setup, you are putting it down for no reason. Axiom fronts, SVs PD10,etc.. You HAVE GOOD gear.

And you know it's only a start.. If you have space/money, just go all Axiom (tower fronts, center and rear - you can keep the svs).

Good job

Oh.. Love the stands. Just paint them and you're set. They actually look very high quality.

Thanks. I'm actually very happy with the equipment, sound wise especially since I haven't had the pleasure of listening to speakers like this and a proper subwoofer before, I was a bit amazed at what I was missing before to tell the truth and this stuff is considered low-mid budget. Aesthetically though I'm hoping I can do much better when we move, while browsing this forum searching for a place to express my thanks I was amazed at the living/bed/HT rooms people have put together along with the equipment in them.. VERY impressive stuff.

Anyways, all in good time I suppose.

Cheers.

You have a very nice system and the room looks very comfortable.

Nothing at all to be down on...many would be thrilled to own such a system and room.

I know some of the posts here with full theater rooms and and everything can be a bit intimidating! But posts like yours are great for the rest of us unwashed masses that can only dream of such things. Can definitely tell you did a lot of research on AVS before making any purchases. Looks great, and I bet it sounds great too.

I'm sure you will post some monster system one day now that you got the bug, will be looking forward to it.

jiddu, good job!

I agree, those speaker stands look great. I'd put them in my room. Slap some black Grizzly Grip on there and you're set.

Nice gear too. Since you're obviously handy why not hack that Ikea Lack stand? I was actually just looking to do this. Cheap and looks decent.

jiddu,

One of the nicest posts I've seen! You get a 10 just for that alone!!

I agree with everyone else, in addition to being very well put together, your system is actually quite pleasant to look at. Nice components, cozy place, I love the Panny tv, you've done very well, my friend!

Congrats and enjoy!!

The setup looks really good to me too. Don't be discouraged by some of the setups posted on here; I am willing to bet the guys posting those started with much more modest setups in a lot of cases.

If you've paid off your school loans then you are on the right path to one day (soon enough) being able to afford whatever system you want. Just keep focused on your goals (house, awesome HT setup, etc).

Excellent start!

Side note: I love the stand the wizzack posted. I am not handy but would consider trying my hand at something like that now that we finally have a garage. Judging by your speaker stands you have some wood working skills, maybe give something like that a go.

Wow, that is actually quite smart looking, I like it. I'll probably give it a try when I get some free time, the risk is I botch it and my wife kills me since I haven't really built anything besides the stands but I don't think I can resist
. Thank you for that.

That whole room reno is pretty interesting to see, that shot of the big Bosch saw made me excited and admittedly a bit envious, not so common to see Bosch tools up here in Canadaland anymore.

I am going to take a chance and try my hand at this too. I have been looking for a TV stand, but I can't find one I love under $1400 so this may be a good alternative.

I've actually never done any serious wood working projects so I may practice on some MDF before I buy (what I assume is) expensive larger slabs of lumber.

It looks like a simple enough design tho.

or just buy the ikea lack tv bench for $50 and hack it like in the pic. I think it only requires drilling 4 holes and installing those threaded bolts. Pretty easy.

I'll give it a shot too. Seems cheap enough. The bolts are pretty cheap @ home depot.

What fun would just going to Ikea be?

I wanted to learn a little about wood working anyway.

The other thing I discovered is that McMaster Carr has some nice hardware and bushings that would make it possible to build a very high quality version of this stand.
