My first HDDVD movie: What "looks" best?

I avoided diving into the format war until today. The HDDVD player has arrived and is waiting for its first run.

So what movie is the defacto "best" transfer quality? What is the "must have" movie to use as the demo material?

Hmmm,

For cartoons - Corpse Bride/Happy Feet

For movies - Phantom of the Opera/Batman Begins/MI III/Aeon Flux

All have great video, those would be my vote.

Ray is supposed to have great video also, but I have yet to see it.
King Kong. Most people agree it's the best looking movie on both HD DVD and BD. I am one of them. Bourne Identity also looks quite stunning, but nothing touches King Kong.
Scorpian King

I think you'll find the "Cutting Edge" documentary on the Bullitt HD DVD quite interesting also.
My favorite Training Day/Happy Feet/Ant Bully/Fast and Furious Toyko Drift.

If you are looking for the "best transfer quality" then pretty much all of them qualify. Please don't join the cluster of people that make the assumption that if the picure doesn't look like you're looking out a window, then there is something wrong with the transfer.

What you see is by and large exactly what the film was supposed to look like. The Tier list mentioned above is targeted specifically towards what will look niftiest on your system (very different criterion from best transfer quality). The titles people mention above will do a nice job of showing off your system -- just don't confuse that with "best" transfer quality -- two completely different things!

Having said that, I'll suggest Seabiscuit as a very good looking and enjoyable film.
king kong by far

phantom of the opera also looks awesome, i think its an underrated title and the colors are amazing
Corpse Bride is pretty sweet looking. That was the first hd dvd I watched. I'm a big Tim Burton fan....so that helped.

For overall best movie, picture, and sound, I'd go with Batman Begins. Just to see eye candy (with a less desirable movie, at least for me), go with King Kong.
And lets not forget Serenity, A Scanner Darkly and the hundreds of other HDDVDs.
Seabiscuit. This movie not only has breathtaking cinemaphotography, but the lens actually captures real things as oppose to CGI FX shots. It also has a great range of colors, and decent flick as well.

i said what i meant, on bd and hd dvd most people agree it the best looking movie... that is an absolute statement and i stand by it.
Serenity is easily my favorite HD DVD title, but you have to have seen and enjoyed Firefly to completely appreciate the movie. Otherwise, probably Batman Begins.

I think he means it's the best looking movie available in either format.
