Hi All.
I am looking for some speakers for my first home theater room.
The room is quiet small , measuring at 3.4 x 4.4 Meters. (11.1' x 14.4' feet)
This room has a 110-120" projector screen.
Budget is quiet tight. hence i was looking at some second hand speakers.

I understand that in the ~1000 AUD budget I will not be able to get the best the best. I jest need something that is not absolutely crap.

Main brands I was looking at was Monitor audio + Polk + Paragidum.

here are a few options I have found looking at classifieds and i want to know your thoughts.

Option 1 $800 AUD (no Sub no Receiver no surround speakers)
2x floor standing Monitor Audio BX5
1x central Monitor Audio BX centre

Option 2 $850 AUD(complete 5.1 Speakers System , No Receiver,tower speakers are different model)
PWS110
TSI300 (tower)
TSI400 (tower)
CS20 (Centre)
Surround speakers included but not sure of model number

Option 3 $999 AUD (full system includes everything)
Polk TSX330 (5.1 System)
Yamaha RX-V477 AV Receiver

Option 4 $1100 (complete package including Receiver)
Klipsch Synergy 5.1 home theater System
SW350 SUB
Pioneer Receiver

Option 5 $750 (no receiver) Jamo Package
2 x S606 floor standing speakers with 8" side firing woofers
2x S60SUR surround speakers
1 x S60CEN center speakers
1 x SUB300

Ideally to me option 3,4 and 5 look good, its within my price range ~1000 AUD and has everything included, I have no idea what it will sound like.

I'd go for the highest quality front three and hold off on all the other speakers till funds allow so Option 1 as they should play down to "cheap subwoofer" territory with high quality drivers unlike you other choices.

I agree with Geoff, Option 1---but mainly if you are going to do say, at least 40% music listening. For HT/TV-only usage the Polk options aren't terrible given that audio is generally so overpriced in Australia. An SVS PB1000 that goes for $500 in the US is almost $800 there.

However, Option 4 is your worst option, I'd cross that off ASAP.

Can't comment on Option 5 because I've never heard Jamo speakers.

Of the Polk options, Option 3 is the one I'd pick.

The smartest way to go IMO would be to skip towers and just buy bookshelf speakers for your fronts, or see if they offer any tower-free package options.

IDK, on a budget the Monitor Audio towers will play as low as an "affordable" sub in Australia.

Not true here of course, but we are lucky here in the States when it comes to value sub choices.

Option 1 will have the quality sound. If you're willing to add a sub and surrounds later on, maybe the best on your list. Out the Polk options #3 is the better of the two. We're not even going to discuss option 4 if you value your hearing. I've never heard Jamo either so can't offer any useful feedback on those.

Best value for money is option 3 IMO.

I agree with Zorba that towers will not be necessary for a predominatly HT setup if you have a decent sub.

Thanks for the advice guys,
i ended up buying the BX-5's.

I also purchased a Yamaha RX-V577 Receiver to drive the speakers (which has not arrived yet)
total cost was 1k AUD :)
Let us know how they sound.

You did well.
