I have a Motorola DCT6416 (brand new) Charter HD DVR box.

I have a BenQ PE7700 HD projector.

5X1 Enhanced HDMI Switch with built-in Equalizer (REV.2.1)

When the HDMI cable is plugged directly from the DVR box to the projector, everything works fine.

But when I plug it into my switcher and output to the projector, it works for about 30 seconds... then the screen goes black. If I change the input on the switcher and then change it back... the image comes up again for about 30 seconds... then dies again.

Do you guys have any thoughts? I have messed with the resolutions on the HD DVR.... I don't know what else to try.

Thanks guys.

If its works fine like this: dvr--->projector

and not fine after 30sec like this: dvr--->switcher--->projector

then your switcher is clearly faulty. Can you exchange or return it? The hdmi cable might also be wonky. Can you use different hdmi cables to test?

I did try two cables. One hdmi and one hdmi-to-dvi (with an hdmi adapter on one end).

Both do it.

The switcher worked fine with my last box (the Charter MOXI box)... this didn't start happening until we got a new HD box... so I'm skeptical that the switcher just conveniently died at the same time that we got a new cable box... when it had worked for the 6 months previous.

Sounds like the switcher - you never know when you are plugging and unplugging these cables when a static charge will zap your gear.

The only time I have experienced something similar on my Benq projector was when the green component connection was marginal. It's either a signal level problem or a connection problem. Is there any way to tweak the signal levels?

What's the warranty and return policy on the switcher?

Give this a try next time.

Unplug the devices.

Power up the 7700 first, then turn on the dvr, with the switcher being plugged into both of course, and see what happens.

If that doesn't work try turning the 7700 on first, then plug the HDMI cable in, from the switcher of course, then power up the DVR, and then plug the HDMI cable into the DVR.

Have you tried all five of the ports on the switcher?
