Hi Paul

I have bought a DVD player MERIDIAN 598 Pal progressive.

My HT300 does not recognize 576p.

The picture is stretching vertically.

Info on the HT300 shows :

Source YCRCB 32Khz

Horiz frequency 31,2 Khz

Vertic frequency 50 Hz

Resolution 720 x 576 Mode : 49

Software 2.07 H P(04)

I am very disappointed

Is it a solution?

I live in a PAL region like Italy.

I hope you understand my bad English.

Best wishes.

Hi Alfred,

Are you using your projector connected through the RI2 interface ?

If it's the case, you probably have the problem I've had recently, it's the RI2 that doesn't handle progressive signal properly (either PAL or NTSC)

Mine has been replaced for a modified one and it's now working perfectly.

I hope this will help you.

Hi Arnaud,

My DVD meridian 598 is connected in component mode directly on the SIM2

HT300. I have not an RI2.

Do you use PAL progressive.

If yes what resolution is display by the function info of your SIM2 HT300.

I don't know if the probem is locate on the DVD player or the sim2 HT300

Best wishes.

It's the same as yours :

Mode 49 : 720x576

Same vertical and horizontal frequencies

What's strange is that before having my RI2 replaced, I'd tried to connect the component cable directly to the projector to verify it was the RI2's fault and it worked !!!

Maybe it's a problem of the DVD player ? I'm personnally using a Denon A1/9000

Arnaud,

720x576 is not the good résolution for 576p.

The good résolution is 852x576. or(768x576)

Is the DVD player witch not deliver the good résolution or the SIM2 HT300

witch truncated it.

That is the question .

Is somebody has the response. ?

I am just about to get a Progressive Card for my Merdian 800, after my dealer successfully found a Pal progressive 598 provided superior deinterlacing to that in a HT300+. I have a HT300, so it must be possible, although I can't tell you how its done.

I'll try and find out some more, but it may be later in the week.

I have an HT300 and am using a Toshiba SD-9500 with PAL progressive.

Info on the HT300 is exactly as yours but I do not have the vertical stretching problem. Picture quality is excellent, equal to or better than NTSC, with the correct aspect ratio.

Hope this helps.

Hi Alfred,

The fact is I'm in the same situation as chips (I've never really paid attention to the figures  ), the picture ratio looks correct and there's not stretching problem either

Chips and Arnaud.

If you have the same résolution 720x576, you have the same vertically stretching problem.

You'l better see it with DVD soft not anamorphic.

It seems the HT300 is not capable PAL progressive.

The good résolution is 852x576 or 768x576.

Is somebody could try to fed another projector with Pal progressive and verify what resolution is displayed.

Thank you all, and best wishes.

I have not noticed any stretching on mine with anamorphic DVDs, but if you have this problem with your set-up, you could perhaps correct it by using one of the custom “user†ratios on the HT300. I believe that it may be necessary to use a custom ratio with non-anamorphic DVDs.

But how do you explain that when switching from component (progressive) to S-video (interlaced) output the picture remains the same (ratio speaking) and it's not vertically stretched at all ???

Arnaud,

Make the same with a DVD soft not wide screen and you'll see the difference between S video and Pal progressive, the ratio is not the same I tried it myself.

Anymore 720x576 is a bad resolution witch stretch the picture vertically.

Chips,

yes it is possible to use user ratio I do it myself, but I loose 68 dot of resolution.

Thank you all.

As the UK distributor of SIM2, we have tested the entire Grand Cinema range including the HT300plus on a variety of Progressive PAL DVD Players including the latest Meridian, Arcam DV27 & 88, Denon DVD Player and TAG.

And in general they play extremely well, but we have had the odd unit which refuses to play ball and we have experienced some strange effects on the TAG unit but it appears to be down to a combination of player and projector.

We have dispatched the Meridian 598 and an Arcam DV88 to SIM2 for additional investigation. This only happened yesterday, so it will be a few days before I am able to report back with any news.

Thank you Alan.

When you'll fed the HT300 with Pal progressive you have to look if the resolution is 720 x 576.

Try it with a DVD soft in 4 x 3 not 16 x 9 and you could see if the picture is stretched vertically.

I apologize for my bad English

Best wishes.

Alan, could you expand on that last point? I'm saving up for a Tag McLaren DVD32R (or DVD32FLR) and a Sim2 HT300+, and am slightly concerned by the words "strange" and "effects" in the same sentence... :(

Thanks,

Hi all,

The SIM2 HT300 accept 576p, but it process it Badly.

720 x576 does not exist as a good résolution.

Divide 576:3=192 Multiply 192x4=768 : the good resolution is 768x576 for a good 4x3 ratio which not stretch the picture vertically.

In the user manual you can read as resolution accepted 480p 720p 1080i.

I think if the HT300 is 720P capable the factory could enable real 576P by soft.

Is one of you in the PAL countries who speak correctly could ask this upgrade.

Because 576p is authorized now.

I hope you understand my bad English

Best wishes.
