I'm fortunate to have 2 JVC 30Ks in use and have never had the problems with block noise and other things I've seen posted. On the other hand . . . my 30Ks will generally eat a tape if I go from a hi speed fast forward or rewind to play or stop.

I've gotten to the point where I have left the screws off of the unit to enable to get the tapes out once this happens. The only workarounds I have discovered are to:

1) Use the forward/reverse search - while watching the picture similar to a commercial skip or;

2) Use the index feature which finds the next recorded show on the tape. This only seems to work when I am viewing the tape on the same 30K that I recorded the tape on so it doesn't help me a lot. I've noticed that in this mode the tape is fast forwarded or rewound at a high rate of speed until it gets close to the correct location where it slows substantially. I wish it would do this for normal fast forward / rewind.

Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any other workarounds?

One of my 30Ks has the "fix" and according to Marek the other one needs the "fix" though I don't believe the "fix" has anything to do with the transport. Also, one unit was a new unit and one was an E-Cost refurb. I'm using the 30Ks with Samsung T165 tuners and Samsung DLPs. Your comments are appreciated!

More as a good habit, I press STOP after a fast forward or fast rewind, then press PLAY. I do this with all my VCR's (which incl. a Beta hi-fi, VHS, and a 30K) and have never had a transport problem. It might be an unnecessary step, but I'm hoping my luck will continue
