I bought some keystones from monoprice and some of these decora inserts. The decora inserts I have are the standard 4 port insert that looks like the picture below.

The monoprice cat5s are too wide, the keystones are similar to these below, they are two wide to fit two across in the standard levton decora insert.

I can go and get keystones from home depot in 10 packs for $30.00 (twice the monoprice cost) but was wondering if there was a better solution. I like the monoprice idea because they were cheaper and I got yellow and blue to match the color of wire on each of my cat5 drops. that will just make the labeling easier.

I know they make wall plates that are not decora and give the keystones a little more room. I figured I could ditch the decora idea and get a 3 gang plate but they biggest I have seen are 12 port - 2 gangs

If I switch to leviton cat5 keystones and use the 6 port decora inserts will I have any problems? That seems much tighter then my other plan?

You have a few options.

You could find a company online that will custome make a 3 or 4 gang keystone plate.

You could skip the plate, and use a scoop/nose

Install 2 double- or triple gang 12-port plates, next to each other, with a slight separation.

You could use a wall-mount patch panel

You could use a wall-mount 19" rack, with a keystone patch panel

Or, you can buy the narrower keystone jacks, and use the Decora plates that you like.

I would recommend the Leviton inserts, sticking with the Decora plates. You'll have no problem fitting 6 Leviton modules in the Decora insert.

For home use, I think Decora is the way to go; it looks nicer, makes painting easier since you can remove the cover plate without dragging out the wires from the wall, gives you more wiggle room to level the plate (at least with a single gang), and makes multi-gang plates simple.
