I have lived with an issue on HiDef 1080i with my RPTV losing it's sync since last year in scenes that go from dark to light such as explosions, fireworks, flashbulbs etc. This forum alerted me to a problem with Sony RPTV sets with a Video 5 Input issue and so I finally called Sony about this annoying issue.

They asked me to get an estimate from their authroized service center here in Minneapolis, and these guys made me pay them $140.00 for two minutes of watching my set on cable. They then several days later after contacting Sony faxed me an estimate for $389.00 to replace two surface mount components, a cap and resister.

I forwarded all the materials to Sony and they denied my claim for repair when it is now two months out of the one year warranty. I have been annoyed by this ever since getting my HD100, which is another story.

I own over $25K worth of Sony gear, registered so they know, and they deny even covering the balance of $255.00.

I love Sony gear, don't get me wrong, but I will have a very hard time ever buying Sony again. I called again to ask for reconsideration and await their answer. Lastly, I am very apprehensive to have some technician who told me has no experience with this set to repair a surface mount board with such fine pitch parts in my home. Why can't Sony just replace the board that is in question. I still do not know what's wrong with my set, but will most likely effect the repair and pay for it out of my pocket anyway.

I just hope it fixes it ...

KEEP HOUNDING THEM. Escalate to a manager. I had the same experience with my Mits 73905... a $10k (I paid a lot less though) item and they were trying to nickel and dime me. After about 6 months of hounding them they finally sent me a brand new 73907. The funny part was, a distant cousin works for Mits Electronics, and when I ran into him at a party, he said, "oh you're THAT guy the managers at work kept having meetings about."

Never give up, never surrender!
