i've been holding out for a samsung this summer by watching a 6 year old 32" piece of panasonic CRT crapola and wouldn't you know it... NO PICTURE. Looks like the damn tube is blown or something. NOW WHAT DO I DO? The new samsungs aren't in stores yet, and the better models perhaps aren't till mid summer... I"M SCREWED. I certainly cant afford plasma for an HD upgrade! Any suggestions?

Maybe buy a 27 inch used peice of crap to use for a few months off ebay. Should be able to find one for $100 or so. Shouldn't break you and yuo can still watch TV while you wait for what you want.

by the way, i tried the scientific approach to tv repair.... kicking the crap out of it the side of it... and what do you know, the picture came back on (though it flickers a lot). i must have a loose solder joint in the tv or something.... crossing my fingers that it holds on

i like the kirks, but now august seems like an eternity.... i'm sure i can only afford the HLP5063W anyway. will that be available within the next 30 days?

In the military, we use to call that the "big hammer" approach to electronics repair. lol

Yeah, probably a cold solder joint.

Regarding getting one off of Ebay, unless you could see it before bidding, you probably are taking a large risk. I'd just check out the local stores and see what they had available.

If nothing else, you could get a tuner card for your computer. Then you could watch TV while writing post to the forum. ;)

Just a thought. If you have kids and a car that is big enough, you can buy a 13" TV/DVD combo unit with a 12 VDC plug and use it in the car after you buy your new Sammy. They run around $150 - $250 and it makes long trips with the kids MUCH nicer. We set ours in between the two front seats and it works great!
