I got my 48413 recently and out of the box, this tv doesnt even compare with the hitachi 46f500 that i turned in. The hitachi is much better (out of the box). I hope that I can learn to tweak this mits to look good.

Is it okay to use AVIA this early in the tv's life? or should i let it break in a bit more than a week?

Will AVIA fix geometery issues. My screen definitely need geo adjusting.

The stretch plus mode is nice, but the pq is not as clear for standard tv. HD programs are also not as clear as the F500. I see artifacts or whatever, it just doesn't have that crystal clear look like hdtv should.

I'll search in here on how to tweak this puppy but if you have any crucial advice, please chime in.

Did you already converge? Can you take a picture of the grid?

Its ok to use AVIA for the user settings. I would wait before messing with Geometry (you may want to exchange it if it is real bad).

When I went inot the converge menu, i noticed that the cross was completely white already. i was a little confused on what to do. I moved the cros upp and down to see the difference but then left it as it was originally. So, I am not sure if I converged properly.

I will take a pic of the grid tonight and post it for you.

As for the geo issues. I notice that about a half of an inch on the very bottom of the screen emmits a bright blue light, as if the picture screen needs to be slid down to fit in right.

I also notice on "some" 4:3 views that the black bars on the right are about 2 inches wider.

Also on some pictures the top of the screen has that thin blue line.

It's wierd.

You can have the TV converged well enough that the white cross looks good, but when you go to the 64 point convergence, it's out of alignment everwhere else.

If the problems are as bad as you describe, call service to come out adjust things for you. It should all be covered by warranty.

Did you notice Mark Alexander's post? The guy never got into the 64 point convergence menu. Its funny when people dont know what theyre doing and then blame it on the product.

Nick was just a bit overzealous with his new toy. I know for a fact that he did an extensive amount of research before making the purchase. I for one hope that the 64-point convergence does the trick and the set does not have poor geometry.

Nick...bring us news!!!

I've done convergence on my ws55413 (3 weeks old)

I haven't done AVIA yet

in the 64p convergence screen I see a blue band on the bottom, if I move it down, then the line above is off.

can you explain the term geometry?

not sure what I am looking for to see if that is bad

thanks

It's virtually impossible to screw something up when doing the 64 point convergence. Do it.

In regards to the black bars on one side being 2" wider than the other side - I doubt this is the "wobbler" to prevent burn-in. This feature usually moves the bars 1/4" or so. I had this problem in the past. Turn off and then unplug your set top box - wait 2 minutes and plug it back in. This will fix it unless you have a defective box.

Good luck. Let us now how things work out.

hey nick

when you are talking about the 2" bar thing, are you using the DVI plug?

because I have that too, but only with the DVI, component is fine

here is a post from another site :( .....

Warning - 1080i DVI Offset on Mitsubishi 2004 HDTVs

The DVI shift (pictures shift to the left by 2-3 inches) could be a serious design flaw in the Mitsubishi's 2004 HDTV line. The shift is so severe that it would be almost impossible to correct it without some convergence problems using standard geometry tweaks.

I would like to hear from other Mits 2004 HDTV owners (xx313, xx413 etc). Can you confirm this problem? Do you see a picture shift when the TV is connected to a HD receiver using the DVI port and in 1080i mode?

============================================

mine actually seems to shift to the right, because the "t" in HDNet is cut off

when doing convergence on Input 1 in comparision to DVI, the grid seems different, like the 64 points are not in the same place (shouldn't they be???)

this is why I was asking about the geo

My internet connection has been down for about 10 days, i just got it up yesterday, sorry for not responding.

I did do a 64 point convergenge and it helped the geometery issue a bit. i still notice an arching effect at the edges though. It's not bad enough to complain though, you can't tell when the screen is full via HD source or in sd stretch mode....at all.

I don't have any issues with this set, other than not seeing a big difference between this and my hitachi. As I said, this was ootb, no avia and minor tweaking.

From a newb point of view. This forum is a saviour but then you also have to consider...some of you guys can see the slightest differences in PQ because you have been watching through these sets for a long time, most of you seeing hd when it first came out, i'm sure. But for newbs like me, I just couldn't see the difference. They both looked great.

Both the mits and the hitachi had great sd picture quality. I could watch it all day and not complain once. Some channels are quite fuzzy, but i wouldnt normally watch these anyway.

nbc, abc, cbs, fox, espn, discovery, etc... all look just fine in sd to me. The NON-HD premium channels (hbo, showtime etc.) look great to me, much better than the previous channels.

In HD--they both looked great, no real complaints. I noticed on the mits, when the screen displays dark colors, like black, i see little flickering bits. I tried playing with the sharpness and contrast but if i turn it down, the pq is reduced too. This is my only issue, which is not really an issue at all.

No need to worry, I have ordered avia. I'm sure it is what i need.

yeah

that's how I have been correcting it.

I really have no real big issues, so far (maybe I'm not as picky as some) I am pleased with the performance so far
