The bulb dims over time and usually the stated hours are where the bulb gets to ~50% brightness. I measured my HC1080 a couple of weeks ago and the bulb was down only ~15% with 1150 hours on it from when it was brand new (~50 hours on it) always running in the low brightness mode.
The HC1080 has the replace lamp come on at 1700 hours assumming you run it in the high lamp mode. If you use the low mode, it should last about 3000 hours. You can go through the lamp reset procedure to get rid of the signal for now. You may want to consider getting a replacement bulb and keep the old one as a backup if you plan to keep the projector for a year or more.
