I wish I had pictures of the basement before starting on this project a year and a half ago. It was basically a wide open space, with a support wall down the middle. This basement was finished to provide space for the entire family to relax and have fun.
Pic from the base of the steps:

Obviously, we need to put on some finishing touches. The room is approximately 24x11:

The entertainment area:
Vizio 42GV-LF
Onkyo TX-S605
Sony BDP-S350
XBox 360
Wii
Harmony 880
Motorola HD Cable box
Monoprice HDMI switch
Polk RM6750
You have to know that before this, the best I had was a 4:3 Sony HDTV w/no surround, so this is a big upgrade.

Here's the real messy pic. We're still trying to decide on a countertop. Also, what to put in that area, possibly a popcorn popper. Right now, it's holing all the other junk that doesn't have a home yet.

This basement was finished so that we would have a nice place to hang out as a family, and so far I'm really happy with it. We still have some finishing touches to put on, such as some trim for the bottom of the equipment area. On the end with the door, we have 10x11 office, and on the other end, we have a 14x 11 playroom for the girls. It is kind of tough to plan a blank space that is 56ishx11, but I'm really happy with it. Once we get the basics finished, I plan on adding another nicer sub, and hopefully a larger panel. The problem is, the whole house is a project, so I need to do a bunch of work upstairs before I can add much to this. What do you guys think, and are there any other fun little things I could add in the cabinet area that the family might enjoy? I hope the pics from picasa worked
