What type of budget are you looking at? There are better than Sharp, I'd hate to own a TV with uniformity, banding, and all those issues, I'm sorry.

Oh, you can get a Samsung Series 5 46" very easily within that budget. Stick with the Samsung brand, they're far superior to the Aquos line at this point in time...

i mean i have heard some 720 p tvs are better than 1080 but still

My grandpas tv is very sharp , Ill look some more at the samsungs,

we are blind going into this , like i said, Im not expecting something OUTRAGEOUS for $1500 , but id like to get the best we can

i guess it would be smart to stay in the samsung family , as we do like his tv.

I'm looking at the Samsung LN46A530 on amazon now

its in the price range i mentioned and it has a 20,000:1 contrast instead of a 7500:1 which is alot better,

sound like a plan to you guys?

The Samsung LN46A530 is a great choice! I have the 52" 530 model and its been great. If you are looking for "best bang for the buck", this is it IMO.

The 530 series is also thought to be 30,000:1 like the 550 series since they seem to be the same panel. Check out the 550 thread for picture settings advice. Enjoy!
