Just pulled my vsx-92 from the closet to hook up a 5.1 system in my family room- Is there anything that I am missing using this unit VS getting one of the new hi-end AVR's that are out there- Mostly concerned about sound quality- thanks

No difference in sound quality. The newer models will have the latest Dolby and DTS codecs and the ability to connect directly to the internet. Otherwise, you have a higher quality unit than the major manufacturers make today. I use a VSX-92 myself. I have no motivation at all to put anything new in its place. i don't think the latest codecs are all that important and I don't connect my system to the internet. Nevertheless, my Blu Ray player has that capability. Enjoy the fact that you have an outstanding AV receiver.

Room correction improvements will easily make the biggest difference in perceived sound quality. If you're using and happy with the results from Advanced MCACC in your Pio, you're golden. If not, I'd consider one of the Audyssey XT32 products, or wait for user reports about the forthcoming Emotiva XMC-1. If Emo gets it right, their inclusion of Dirac could set a new bar for room correction in a consumer AVR.

If we are going to consider DSP then I would say no meaningful difference in sound quality. Any differences would be subtle at best.
If we consider Room Correction products - MCACC vs. some others - I would say (and so would the research) that there are distinct i.e. not subtle differences in sound quality. Are we going to go down this road, again?

Not if you don't want to. it is just semantics. One person's huge is another person's subtle. Sound differences can be subtle and distinct at the same time, can't they?

I doubt that objective readers would find the below FR differences in comparison of RC products to be "subtle".

...You are talking about the difference between room calibration and no room calibration. I am talking about the difference between two different room calibration systems. Are we going down this road again?
I'm talking about the differences between room correction systems, and Harman's research shows that differences in RC products absolutely affect user preferences for SQ.

What are you talking about?

I'm bored with this. Sorry. If I retract everything I said, will that satisfy you?

Stop advising folks that differences in Room Correction products are subtle and unimportant, when your opinion is contrary to a properly conducted blind study from a respected source.

No different than me posting in an amp thread that my Ampfinity Mega-Mk XXVIIB with mods makes a Crown amp sound like ****e. You'd have a cow.
