First off, I am new to the forum and glad to be apart of AVS. I've been reading for a month or so here and this place is great. Long time HTF member and read about AVS over there.

I've been in the market for a new HDTV for a year or so now and have decided an ED plasma is the best choice for me. After numerous trips to the local retailers and reading reviews online I pretty much decided that the Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P was the best choice. My findings on this site just confirmed a decision I had already pretty much made however, learning of a 7th generation cconsumer due out soon has put my in a bind. I understand the 7UY is out now but I really want silver (all my components are silver) speakers, the tuner. and included stand.

I'm itchting to pull the trigger now but I can wait if the new one will be out before the end of the year. Has it been confirmed that they will be releasing new consumer models in the next few months? Also, are there major differences between the two that would be worth the wait?

If the Red Sox win game 7 tonight it's going to be even tougher to wait. What a way to break in a new plasma with the Sox in the WS!

One more quick question, Anyone on the forum using an indoor antenna to recieve HD broadcasts. If so, what brand and how good is the rececption?

Thanks for the replies in advance.

As far as I know, nothing definite as far as a shipping date for the newest consumer model. The present one was released this past summer. I have it and it is great. Being silver and black it is quite handsome. If you are within 1 to 20 miles, you may have a good chance of picking up digital stations with a simple indoor antenna. Over 20 miles, you will need a medium antenna. Over 40 miles from a given station, you will need a larger antenna. The type of antenna is UHF. UHF signals are highly directional. If you are 30-40 miles from transmitting towers, you will need some added height on antenna and, perhaps, a rotator if the towers lie in different directions. At 40 plus miles, a pre-amp may come in handy. All the networks now telecast in HD, at times. You can receive UHF (digital) signals up to 60 miles with the best receiving equipment. GO SOX!

If the current model was released this past summer would might assume the next model would follow approx. a year afterwards so we might not see it for another 6 months.

What was the time gap in between the 6UY release and the 7UY?

This is pretty much the same predicament I'm in! I dont watch sports But I kind of would like to have it by X-mas. How much better is the 7uy than the 6uy?? Would the next consumer version (TH42Pd30U/P) be THAT much better??

Aaron, I'm in pretty much the same boat, as I'd like to have a plasma by the bowl season and NFL playoffs. I've been sold on the Panasonics for several months now, but I'm starting to really consider the JVC. It can be had online (buydig.com) for less than the consumer panny. It has comparable blacks and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. It's a black bexel with silver speakers on the bottom, which I like much better than the speakers on the side of the Panny. It would probably look really nice with your home theater gear. I'm still trying to find it locally and may pull the trigger soon thereafter. Good Luck.

Doh! I hope you didn't just jinx it. Just Kidding.

I am rooting for the Sox too. As a loyal Cubs fan, you can't help but love the red sox too.

Never gonna happen, dude! Didn't you see that X-Files episode where the CSM conspires to prevent the Bills from ever winning the super bowl? The same thing applies to the Sox (and the Cubs).

If you always waited for the 'next model', you would never buy a display. It is just a slow evolution in PQ on these sets; nothing starling year to year. When you have the urge and the money, just buy what you think is best for you at that point in time. And never look back~

Wait for the TH42Pd99U/P because you won't need one to watch the Red Sox in WS until then.

I have the Panny consumer model and use a silver sensor indoor antenna to pick up the major networks HD feed OTA. We are 35-40 miles from the antenna farm with flat terrain. The stations receive 80-90% signal strength off this indoor antenna.
