I have been working on the Family theater room for a few months now. It's almost done so I thought I would share some pictures on my work and progress.

This is a picture right after I finished the drywall and getting the carpet put in. Yes me and my dad Frammed out the walls and hung the dry wall. I finish the dry wall my self. Carpet was put in by lowes since it was free install
.

This is my new screen I built my self. It's a 120 inch 16:9 screen. I built the frame and wrapped it in velvet. Then put the screen matieral in. (AKA laminate counter top). Just for refrence thats a 3 foot long lvl on top of the screen.

This is how it looks today. I still have to put in the drop ceiling and run the speaker wire in the walls. Also Build a platform for the rear row of seats and speaker stands. But it's almost done.

Here is how my blu-ray collection looks in media center running my movies. This is all controlled through my android phone running a kick ass app called myremote for media center. All my blu-rays are converted to MKV's with just the Video and HD audio on them untouched to save on space. I don't really care about extra's and menu crap.

Here is my rack with all most equipment. From the top down. 1500va Battery back up, just for my Projector and Gaming/htpc. Next is my yammaha RX-A2010 reciver, DVR cable box, Sony SACD player. Then my gaming/HTPC, 4tb hard drive space for blu-rays, 128g ssd, 7970, i5 [email protected] and 750watt corsair PSU(soon to have a rack mounted watercooling system installed. The Pc in the bottom on the left is my wifes gaming rig, pc on the right is my pfsense router. What you can't see in the rack, wide band cable modem, 8 port gig switch and anoughter battery back up. All this is on it's own detecated 20a breaker.

Here is my desk, there is a 25 foot dvi-d cable and usb cable running over to the rack to run it. The side monitors are run by a laptop for work.

Thanks for looking...

What kind of chairs are those and where did you get them? They look nice.

Also, what HTPC software are you running and what do you use to rip to MKV?

You won't belive me but the chairs are from K-Mart
There is a big thread on here about them. I really like them, they recline all the way back and are really comfortable. My HTPC setup is windows7, Running window's media center with MyMovies. I use MakeMKV for making mkv's works great.

+1 for the Kmart chairs!!!

I have four that I'll be putting in my theater. They are discontinued now though and unfortunately hard to find.

Great work by the way! Your room looks good. My only recommendation would be possibly to add some chair rail on the wall at the color change. I think it will help break up the two colors and look really nice.

Sub is all done and hooked up in my theater.. Needs some more tweaking to get it right but I'm happy with it so far , other then the size. You really don't know how big it is till you have it in your room lol. Had a local guy build the box for my. He did a great job.

Got my LED can lights in today and the rest of the tiles in for the drop ceiling .. Not much more to do but run the reset of the speaker wire in the walls and carpet the riser for the back seats. And yes the Sub makes my other speaks look tiny.. The center is soooooo Tiny.

Hey, those speaker stands that you built look fantastic. Well done! Looks like red oak and 4" PVC?

The server you built is quite a honker. I'm impressed. I rip MKVs too but I've only amassed 4.2TB of movies. Do you still use MyMovie as your playback device or have you switched to XBMC, Plex, or something?

Yea there red oak. My wife thinks there ugly lol. I belive that's 4 inch pvc , I can't remeber now. There suppose to be filled with sand to deaden them but I haven't gotten around to it. I'm looking at upgrading to some diy surrounds that mount on the wall so I can get more floor space around the seats. All the speakers will end up being updated to diy over time. Center channel is getting updated first.
Movie interface have been changed to xbmc (kodi) . I haven't used my movies in a long time. I like xbmc a lot better.use makemkv to load them all on to the server. Belive I'm at around 345 movies on it now. Just put in 2 more 3tb drives . Think I'm around 9tb but that's movies and some back up stuff. Also have plex running in the back ground to stream to my roku and tablets around the house.

False wall is about 13 inches deep. 88's are only 9 inches deep but wanted some extra room in case I ever get the upgrade bug again( really wanted the 1099 but kept missing them and didn't wait to wait any more).. The 88's are great so I'm in no way disappointed with them. They are great for movies and I mean great huge jump over my old speakers. Music sounds good but I think it would sound a lot better with some 1099's. If your running 2 channel for a turntable or listen to a lot of music I would go with the 1099's. But I use my theater for like 10% gaming 20% tv and 70% movies. Every blue moon I'll listen to music with it. So the 88's rock for me and I love them. They have a Huge sweet spot. Tricked a friend of mine that is a huge audio file . I put a move in 2 channel and had him listen to it and it's a movie he has seen a million times. He was blow away lol then I told him it was in 2 channel and his jaw fell off lol. The Marty sub also blends well with everything. Can't wait to get the volt 8's done this week and up. Should crush the rear speaks I have now I"m so excited haha. Now I'm going to have to replace the screen material that came in the elite screen as it's horrible lol But I'm about done messing with the theater for a while other then some acoustic treatments for the walls. No more major stuff like building a new wall or moving the projector back 2 feet (really sucks because the back of the room is 2 foot higher then the front) or building more speakers lol.

Got the volt 8's in. I'm really happy with these speaks. They blow my other speaks out of the water.. Played them 2 channel and they would make great book self speakers as well. Great sound.
