Just thought I'd share the power feeding my 9.2 system. ;-)

L/C/R powered by McIntosh MC7106 bridged to 320 wpc @ 8ohms

Side and rear surrounds plus front heights powered by Emotiva UPA-7 @ 125

Onkyo NR-TX1007 on pre/pro duty

Thx! I honestly don't usually tend to believe that an amp can change the sound of stuff...but..and maybe it's just cause it's got so much power at 320wpc/8ohms but man does it sound better in 2 channel than my Emotiva! and the Onkyo....forget about it for power. it's a joke

Now get yourself a 2ch pre-amp for 2ch playback and bypass the AVR all together.

My setup is a AVR and a 2ch pre-amp going to a big chunky A/B RCA switch that then goes to the front poweramp.

2ch playback sounds much better with the 2ch pre-amp than through my AVR.

Weird...I would never expect a large difference with such a change. That would imply the AVR's pre amp stage is not good, or you prefer the 2 ch pre amp for some other reason.
