I am posting this because my information may help one of you who is trying to do the same thing I am.

I have a room that is 12.5 feet by 20 feet and I am setting up two rows of couches facing the 20 foot wall. Two couches in back and one in front. the List of costs for this room are below: This room has no windows and is in the basement.

HD20 Projector 999.00

Cables from Monoprice 120.00

Paint for room and screen (on wall) 45

Joint compound for wall 8

Wood for platform in back 50

Carpet for platform 28

3 Couches 175 (marriot sale)

Onkyo HTIB 640

HTPC 300

Projector Mount 20 (Ebay)

Three light spot for ceiling 29

Thats a total cost of $2,414.00

So I figure this is the cheapest 1080P 7.1 system I could put together.

I am Doing an 100 inch screen that will be 9 feet from the first couch and 12 feet from the back row. I am painting it on the wall with Behr N9 gray formula from Tiddler to try and get a little better black performance. I am not spraying because the over spray is a pain.

The projector will be ceiling mounted.

I build the rear platforms out of 2x4's and particle board and then covered with cheap outdoor carpet.

If anybody has any questions or anything let me know.

Thanks

Sounds great. The only cost saving measure I can see is that there are other Onkyo 7.1 HTIBs for around $400.

Great deal on the couches. How did you find out about the sale?

How about some Pics?

I went with the little more expensive on the Projector to get the 1080P and on the sound system because I wanted it to be TruAudio 7.1 Capable. That is cheapest HTIB I could find that had Blueray HDMI audio in the receiver.

The HTPC breakdown is like this:

Motherboard with HDMI output (only 5.1 audio) 45

Processor AMD 2.6 42

Mini ATX case with powersupply 42

250 GB harddrive 50

Old DVD Burner free

Remote control 25

USB tuner 42

Old Keyboard and mouse free.

4 Gig dual Channel Ram 45

All I want now is a ATI graphics card with 7,1 audio capability 39

Terbite Harddrive 100

But that will have to wait because the wife is still in school and that is draining all my money.........

HTPC only 300?

When I built my HTPC three months ago, I envisioned it to be around $500. Total cost by now is $900 and counting.

haha... same here. I have a hard time compromising and sacrificing parts from my "wish list".
