Late this week I am scheduled to visit my friend Mark Burnstein, and should get to demo both his home theater and The Bland's new home theater/home nearby. Also, Alan Gouger is scheduled to come out to work on Mark's Sim2Duo (I believe upgraded to Plus) system at that same time. Finally, after knowing Alan since 1999 since 1999, when he was an owner of AVS Forum and I moderated the AVS Special Guests Forum for several years, we get to meet! Exciting! (Of course I've known Jeff/The Bland on the forum for many years, and I've met Mark a number of times over the years.)

Of course Adam Pelz fine tuned/calibrated the audio, etc on both of their theaters, as he'll be doing for me (and Mani by me) scheduled for late October, as my theater is currently empty and being remodeled/renovated and then upgraded to a 9.4.13 Tinnov Altitude 32, Aerial and Triad speakers, plus JL Audio f212 (2) and Paradigm Persona (2) subwoofers.

Stay tuned!

From Jeff's theater thread:

Jeff, if you live not too far from Mark Burnstein, around Aug 23 or so you may have some theatre visitors if you are up to it - the rumor is that Alan Gouger, Mark Burnstein and Steve Bruzonsky, the Three Amigos, will be getting together near you!
HA! The 3 Amigos!

I should be around. Never met Alan (or you). Would be a good time! My new place is about 5 miles from Mark - so close.
When we add you we will be the 4 Quatros!:)
Yes sitter! I’m up for a get together. Should be a good time.

Well.. Here’s to hoping! My new Lumagen Pro went kaput. I overnighted to Lumagen for repair / replacement yesterday. Spent the afternoon trouble shooting with Jim Peterson at Lumagen and said to send it in. I was unable to get any picture. Decent chance I’ll have it back by Friday. I know things happen but at least the service is first rate with Lumagen. He’ll be doing surgery today. Thank goodness Adam has a back up file... just in case :D.

Wow... the last person it should have happened to...
I guess I will hook mine up and make sure it works as Adam is here Monday - it would be a rude awakening if it is DOA.

Well, considering all the hardware I have in my set up, this was the first bad piece. Odds were it would happen. But Jim at Lumagen is going to have things turned around fast. Calibration is done. Will just have to reload.

But test and leave running. Mine worked for about 15 - 20 hours and then went bad. Stay tuned!

I tested it on a OLED, QLED, and my Sony 5000. It would not sync with the Sony at all. Thought it was a resolution conflict but reset the machine to 1080P and no picture on the Sony or other new 4K flat screens I have. 2 meter cable used - nothing... Jim said they have an incredibly low hardware failure rate - I believe him. Just my luck....

Of all the systems I've worked on, I've only had two failures that I recall? One was catastrophic lightning damage, and the second was an input card damaged by a tech inserting an HDMI connector sideways I think...

My Radiance Pro the 18 GHz output didn’t work but 9 GHz did and in time shipped to Lumagen and quickly the 18 GHz output card replaced and worked fine ever since!

Mine has a 9gHz out as well. Apparently, that was not the issue here. But should be good in a couple days. See you later

Glad to hear it. As you said with as much gear as you have going one might expect something yet Lumagens are very reliable and certainly no better support than Jim. All the best with the Three Amigos.

Things don't always work out as hoped. Mark's been having some issues with his theater, so I got to see it - very, very nice - but we were unable to get his Kaleidescape server going to really see and hear how his system performs. However, I did become great friends with Mark's Doberman Karma! We have had little dogs and I generally abhor large dogs, especially those with sharp huge teeth!!!! But I must say Karma and I got along great and I will miss the seventy pound Doberman!

Talked to Jeff (The Bland), but his was busy between his kids going off to the airport to college that day, and he had just got his Lumagen Radiance Pro back from Lumagen repaired, but he was having difficulty getting it to do 4k as opposed to 1080p!

Nonetheless I had a nice visit to the Motown city and surrounding area!

Next time! Good news is, you were right. I got it going. From the video processor thread:

Well, I went to Best Buy and bought some pricey Audioquest HDMI cables to try (Chocolate @ $159 for 2M). As soon as I plugged them in, the picture snapped into place. They were expensive so I took Kris Deering’s advice and also bought the Monoprice certified cables to try. Amazon has same day delivery here, so I’ll have these later. If they work, I’ll be returning the pricey Audioquest.

I love monoprice. Certified, premium and all those fancy descriptors for a $10 cable....

But now I get to see the tone mapping in action!

The VELOX cables I used prior to having the Radiance Pro in my system worked flawlessly. Never one issue. Something with the Radiance seems to requires some HDMI experimentation.

So far so good.

So sorry things didn’t work out here. I need more than a few days notice!! :D

But next time, we’ll do it up right. Enjoyed the phone conversation.

I know Mark’s theaters are impressive!

Its tough as I was only in town a few days, I was busy with Mark doing some stuff, and when we thought we could do it your HDMI cable snuffed out. SH_T Happens!
