My Wife Now LOVES my home [email protected]@

This is the woman who over the years would give my home theater stuff away and complain about my spending so much time in my theater room!

THis is the wife who would watch something in my room maybe once per year over the past ten years or more.

From April to June 2007, I abandoned my ten year old Aerial 10Ts (4) for Aerial 9s (keeping Aerial CC5 and Aerial SW12 subs (3)).

About July 2007, I abandoned my ten year old Bryston 7B monoblocks (5) for

Theta Enterprise monoblocks, each with dual Reich binding posts, and by October I got the special Cardas paddle lugs (way more surface area than spades), with Granite Audio 8 guage 2 runs for each speaker/amp combo.

That audio signal communicates in "spades" (actually, in "paddles").

(Thanks to Craig Shumer, Theatermax, for the great half price special, now long over, on the Enterprises so I could afford them.)

Result: Musically, system, which Mike Parker and Mark Haflich proclaimed as the best home theater/audio combined system they had heard, was now much better, much more liquid, dynamic, real!!!

From March to May2008, I upgraded the video side. Sim2 C3X 1080,

Stewart CineV 2.35 1.3 gain Studiotek curved screen (40' radius) with drop down side masking to 2.35, 127" wide for 2.35 (and higher aspect ratios),

96" wide for 16:9, Cineslide and ISCO III, Lumagen Radiance & Zektor HDMI switcher, replaced prior HD-XA1 HD DVD player with Integra HD DVD player, added Panasonic 30K blu ray player, and added Integra DTC 9.8 preamp/processor for HDMI high resolution audio from high definition disc players. Which go along with my Theta CB3 and Six Shooter. ISFed by Michael Hamilton. (Thanks to my Sim2 dealer Mark Haflich for getting me all the forgoing goodies at a great price.)

Finally, the past four nights, my wife has watched three movies in my room.

All 2.35. WOW! No matter how good my audio was before the Theta Enterprise monoblocks, it is so much better now! (And the Integra DTC 9.8 is a real improvement over using decoding in the HD DVD player, too.) My noise floor and system is quieter than ever and plays lower than ever yet with full dynamics, stopping on a dime or penny, so my wife never gripes "turn it down". And I never feel its not the right volume!! And the picture - video is simply to die for - sort of like "Ghost Rider" blu ray that we watched tonight!!!

Who would have thought this would ever happen!!!

I am all upgraded - until Theta hopefully comes out with a CB3 upgrade to include on board HDMI high resolution audio processing. But any upgrade and cost is yet to be determined and unfortunately we don't know for sure that an

"upgrade" or the cost thereof until later on hopefully sometime by mid to later 2009, But frankly, I could easily live with the Integra DTC 9.8 plugged in forever, it sounds so good as is (HDMI from HD disc players into Integra,

then analog multi-channel out from Integra to Theta Six Shooter).

This has been a good year so far. One daughter's (soonto enter third year college) boyfriend from hell has actually become respectable. Other daughter is starting college. MyAnd my home theater from hell (to my wife)

has become Enchanted, with No Reservations (both great blu ray discs)!!!

OK OB, quit complaining that I don't post enough here lately. I've been enjoying nirvana.

Bad news is you won't be able to get my home theater and av sale at my wife's yard sale anymore.

All Blu Ray

She didn't care too much for The Usual Suspects. One must pay a bit of attention in that movie to understand the plot twists. I luved it!!!

I thought Ghost Rider sucked the big one. Usual Suspects is great. I thought you were going to say something like she watched Steel Magnolia, Pretty Woman, and Pride & Prejudice.

I clicked on your

So to what exactly do you attribute your wife's recent stay in your HT?

For a woman who has avoided her husband's high-end, kick-ass system for years, somehow geeky upgrades like "new gear" and/or a "lowered noise floor" don't seem like a compelling explanation.

Regardless, congrats on getting your wife to watch with you. I have the same problem with mine. Makes me jelous of those guys with wives/girlfriends who are enthusiastic about watching movies with them.
Steve

I agree, those wives are picky as hell about their picture and sound quality! Mine wouldn't even venture into the theater until I picked up a C3X. Now she's curious about the HT5000 too. Pretty soon, she'll be asking me to upgrade to Wilson X2's I'm sure...

If you've got a dirty car Alan...

I'm betting the big turnaround was Steve getting rid of the Bryston 7's, at an audio level most woman haven't been as corrupted. If he swapped those out first it probably would have saved him the hassle of purchasing new speakers and spent less nights alone. I think there maybe a class action lawsuit in the making here. And deep down Steve knows I'm absolutely correct.

Is it supposed to be a knock against Bryston amps?

My friend Bob pointed out that I've worked hard on family stuff these past few years so my wife wants to spend more time with me. HA!

The Theta Amps are much more tube like, and easier on the feminine ear.
My guess is the main reason she enjoy movies now is the addition of the 2.35 screen.

Or did you already had that before?

That is clearly the widest "biggest" reason, that is, such a large 2.35 screen with such a crystal window like clear projection picture - the sound to match is just a bonus to her.

Never heard that one before.

Its not a question of the Theta Enterprise monoblocks being more "tube-like" than the Bryston 7Bs. They are simply cleaner, more transparent, more accurate bass, better highs, just wonderful as a much more transparent accurate amp in my system. They have the best dynamics of solid state yet that luving sound some luv from tubes I guess.

That's right Steve, the best of solid state with that Luving Sound. The gals just luv it. Norm
