I was using the digital output on the MyHD card into my receiver and getting great sound.

However, I wanted to be able to play MP3's through my home stereo so I connected the internal audio cable between the MyHD card and my very old, and basic Soundblaster Live Gamer.

I am using the digital mini output from that card and then I converted it to a digital coax in on my amp.

I get a slight hiss with both HD playback and MP3's. What part of my system is allowing this?

Would a new sound card with a SPDIF output correct that?

Muted all but the wave input and still have the hiss.

I don't want you to think it is unbearable, with the volume turned high and in low volume periods (commercial break pause) I can hear a hiss that was not present using the digital output on the MyHD card.
