MyHD MDP-130 Install problem

I am new to "forums", so I hope I am posting in the right place!

My problem:

Just got my MyHD MDP-130 yesterday, and with great anticipation set out to install it in an older ASUS P3V133 1Ghz PIII machine (VIA Apollo Pro133 Chipset). The machine refuses to boot, not even a POST code beep, most of the time. A couple of times after removing the card and re-inserting I got a constant never ending beep.

Tried:

Removed all cards (Sound and Ethernet) except for the video ATI A-I-W Radeon 7500---the Machine booted, but XP didn't find the MDP-130.

Installed the card in an even older machine (SuperMicro mobo dual 550 PIII BX Chipset)---it booted and XP found the card---seems like the card is OK??

Does anyone know of a problem with the ASUS P3V133 that might cause this, if not any ideas on what to try?

Appreciate the help!

From the trouble shooting FAQ at DigitalConnection.com...

My computer won't boot-up after installing MyHD.

MyHD is not compatible with older motherboards that does not support PCI 3.3V, also specified as PCI 2.2 compliance. Please check with you motherboard manuals or manufacturer for specifications or check this chipset table from the Asus Germany page

Its been a couple of years, but I do remember BX boards having problems.
Yep, you gotta make sure your mboard supports this. I'm running a GA6CX PIII board. You may need to make a new Mboard purchase.
I can't find any reference to the PCI slot voltage in the manual.

It does say: "provides four 32-bit PCI (Rev. 2.2) expansion slots."

Do you suppose that means PCI 2.2 compliance?

The SuperMicro 550MHZ isn’t fast enough according to the MDP-130 manual, I didn't even try to install the software on it.

Was hoping to run the MDP-130 on the ASUS. Since it meets the minimum requirements and not used for anything else.

Tried getting on ASUS's support page--kept getting some kind of error page with a bunch of what looks like HTML code--got me!

Where's the MDP-130 trouble shooting FAQ at DigitalConnection.com?

I can't seem to locate it.

Thanks!

Sounds like you have PCI 2.2 support to me.

Try clearing CMOS, swapping power supplies, starting with just your Video card and MYHD card.

Oh, and getting the latest mboard BIOS.

Also, the MYHD card should run in HD mode on both boards no prob.
Or try installing the MDP-130 in your other (slower) system or some other to see if it boots.

OOps, sorry I did not read your post more closely. Sounds like Asus may have changed their motherboard features midstream, or maybe they got the incorrect specs in their manual.
I have the A7V133 mobo which has the same wording for the PCI specs. Works fine with a 900mhz TBird.

It is labeled for the 100/120, but the PCI bus requirement should still hold true.

I did a little searching, and one site claims that the P3V133 is also a BX mother board.

THANKS for all the help---Tried resetting CMOS, checking for updated BIOS, and swapping-out the power supply, with no success.

Followed the "this" (Chip Set list) link on digitalconnection’s, support page for the 100/120 card.

WALA!

Found that there are several variations of the "Apollo Pro" chip set.

Mine, with the VT693A / 596B chips is 2.1 compliant, and my manual is wrong---bummer [email protected]#&, well, at least I know for sure where to go from here.

Looks like its mobo time!

Any suggestions on a 370 socket PIII SDRAM mother board that someone is using to run a MyHD 100, 200 or 300 card would be welcomed.

Once again! Thanks for all your help!

Finding 370 mobos is not too easy to find...

I had a MDP-100 running fine on this motherboard with a P3-1GHz.

I still have the board, and I might put the 100 back in it when I order the 130 later next month. It is a MicroATX mobo though (only 3 slots) and because it comes from Intel - no overclocking is possible.

I moved the MDP-100 to a P4, 2.4 GHz when I upgraded my main HTPC two years ago.

This one looks like it might be a nice full size ATX mobo -

It says not in stock, I am not sure if it ever will be in stock again. I did see a listing on ebay about 2 weeks ago for the board.

I've got a spare Asus TUSL2 board, new in box never used. PM if interested.

jkaiser,

Better not wait till next month to order. I tried to buy a 130 over the counter at DC last Monday (21Feb05) and was told, what they had on hand were spoken for (internet orders placed over the weekend.) Was also told, the next shipment was due in around 11Mar05. They suggested I back order one on the spot if I didn't want to wait even longer...

So, you better order up now, to get a place in line. They're going like hot-cakes!
If you have to replace a MB, why not update and add a newer processor (doesn't have to bew the fastest) and newer memory for a additional $100 to $150? That card might work with the older system, but it will be a struggle AFAIC.:(

Really depends on what he wants to do! If he just wants OTA HD recording and DVD playback like I do on a dedicated HTPC then a PIII is more than enough. I have a fanless PIII SLOT 1 P450 and it works great. My entire system has a low speed PSU fan and a low speed fan blowing over the PCI area.

Not that this can't be done with a P4 Mboard, your just upping the cost with new new mem, passive coolers, etc...and P4s run hotter.
Teeps, I am waiting just so I get one with the USB connection for the remote. I need the only serial port for controling my DirectTV box.

I'm waiting for things to calm down! I don't need it until the BS date and I'd like to have the USB option as well. Already have 2 serial receivers from the MDP100 and MDP 120. Now that we are on to the 130 I have to ask...what happened to the 110?

Actually it's the BF date, although many folks consider the BF as BS.
Found a DFI CA64-TC Mother board on NewEgg for $60.

Rebuilt the OS and installed the MyHD-300--WOW! What a picture!

And the dynamics of the sound are fantastic!

Now I'm drooling for the DVI daughter board and a larger display.

One odd problem-- Can't get PBS CH. D21 with subs listed on TitanTV as

20-1 & 20-2. Emailed Titan, they said PBS was Transmitting at full power.

Strange-----

When I enter a "Physical channel" of D21 (in the Channel List) I get a sub at 21-1, which doesn't match Titan' guide on the sub level.

I get a "NO SIGNAL" on the display.

If I enter a "Physical channel" of D20, which doesn't match Titan's guide on the channel assignment, I get the right sub at 20-1,

still "NO SIGNAL" on the display.

Does this seem right?

I'm using a medium gain VHF/UHF roof mounted antenna @ approx. 25FT.

Get signal strength from 50% to 98% on all the other Indy channels.

Thanks in Advance,

Chris C--

MyHD-300--wow! Did you check your calendar? What year is it? :D

The "Dxx-1" indications are simply defaults for manually forced channel additions. Most likely you're not getting the PBS station's signal for some reason--maybe it's in a different direction from the other stations? Anyway, the place to get answers to these sorts of questions is in the "Local reception" forum, not here in HTPC forum.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot--I'll try the "Local reception" forum.

The reason I came here is because this is the Thread I originally started on an "Install problem", and I thought I would kill two birds..... and let the good people who helped me find my original problem know that I did.

Am I missing something?...

The computer has the correct time and date. Is there something in the MYHD app that I need to check?
