I've had a Tivo for several years now and have become very used to the ease of recording shows and playing them back.

I've had a HDTV for about six months now and find that I hardly ever get to watch HD programming because of time constraints, so my wife and I end up watching shows on Tivo (obviously poor quality when compared to HD).

It looks like MyHD is a very viable option for recording HD shows. So four questions.

1) If you use TitanTV to select your shows to watch, do you have to pick the shows from your computer's monitor or can you see TitanTV on the your television?

2) If you can see TitanTv on your television, can you use the remote to pick the shows or is it best to ues a wireless keyboard/mouse?

3) Once you've recorded a show, does MyHD have a "slick" interface like Tivo's Now Playing. Basically if the shows are recorded through TitanTV, do they get name by TitanTV...JAG is JAG or is JAG named some coded title?

4) Same as question two except can you play your movies from a picklist on the television or do you use the computer monitor?

I hope what I'm asking makes sense.

Really, the answer to all your questions is: You gotta use your computer. All Titan TV is for is to provide you a guide and a simpler way to program events.

Is it as easy at TiVO? No. Is it difficult to learn? No, but it does have a learning curve.

I only have MyHD, so I can't compare. But I have heard it is as user friendly as any other PC HD card.

Bono,

There are some HTPC software packages out there, most in development, that can help you out some.

Try myHTPC for a pretty decent software package. Coupled with a myHD card you can get near TiVO like ease of use.

Little bit of learning curve to get it all installed and running, but there is plenty of help available on the forum.

There's also some other software packages out there that help tie it all together, but I don't have first hand knowledge.

Also, I'm running a myHD card. With the beta software available on this particular forum you can really integrate with TitanTV well.

1) Only if you drop in/out of HD mode. This is assuming you are using some sort of passthrough setup that allows you to display your VGA card's output to the TV. (For example if the TV has RGB inputs, or if you have an RGB-YPrPb transcoder on the output of the MyHD. Might also work with passing through component signals from a YPrPb-capable video card like a Radeon.)

2) You're going to need a keyboard/mouse. TitanTV does not currently integrate with the MyHD OSD. The OSD channel guide is pretty much useless - TitanTV integration isn't working, and most stations don't broadcast PSIP program guide data.

3) Not really... Although I never schedule recordings with TitanTV, I've had issues with it and don't trust it.

4) I think it's semi-possible to use the remote to pick files now, but it's a relatively new feature and needs heavy improvement.

If you aren't comfortable with a computer (hardware, software, OS), I wouldn't recommend MyHD. Aside from the interface (which isn't overly complicated), there are a myriad of system issues that may crop up, and if you can't even begin to address them, you will end up banging your head against the wall.

This is not to say it can't be as easy as popping in a card and installing drivers -- some people have been able to do just that. But most people have had to make some tweaks or track down the root of instability issues before they can do basic recroding and playback.

The bottom line is that MyHD is not Tivo. I own both and I can really see how well designed and well thought out the Tivo interface is. This is no knock on MyHD -- designing a universal PC solution is very difficult with the various combination of PC components available -- hell, most PC games don't achieve the level of comaptibility MyHD has reached. But I do see myself getting a set top box one day.
