Since i dint get any response on UPGRADE OR DOWNGRADE HEADING i thought i would put it right out there!


Would it be an upgrade or a downgrade to go frommy NAD t742 reciever to a Yamaha RX-V1400 reciever?

POWER/Processing/SOUND quality?????

The yamaha kills the NAD on features BUT i dont want to downgrade QUality.

In my opinion, if you go to a Yamaha from an NAD, you will lose in the musical quality dept.


To my ears, the NAD sound is miles ahead of the Yamaha sound in terms of musicality. The Yamaha sounds artificially enhanced in certain freqencies compared to the NAD, which has a very neutral, natural sound.


As always, YMMV.

IMO it would be a downgrade. The 1400 can't be compared to that NAD, in spite of the YPAO feature which ultimately is the only feature that could make the 1400 better.

I'd have to agree. Sounds like a downgrade. Is there something the Yamaha does that your looking for and your NAD can't?

I did listen to T752 vs V1400 and the NAD came out clear champion. A guy at eCoustics said the T743 (or was it T753) was better than any Yamaha he had listened, including the mighty V3300.

I don't think you'll find anyone who's heard both that would pick the Yamaha unless they sell them or are employed by them.
