720x480i is DVD resolution, I think NTSC is somewhat worse (440x480). NTSC is analog, so technically there aren't discrete pixels on a scan line (the 4 Mhz frequency of the carrier limits how fast the intensity can change, though and thus the discernable vertical lines).
