I am getting a flashing red and green power indicator on my plasma.

It's only 2.5 years old. The manual indicates that it needs repair. It's a power supply or something major of course. Anyone else experience problems with these units?

I get no picture at all. For a couple of weeks I was experiencing a lot of image retention that was taking a few minutes to go away. TV images were worse than DVD's. The image retention looked really bad

just before the red and green flashing.

Any thought's?

What are repairs costing on these units?

Thanks for any suggestions

I have the 42vp4D which I believe is close to the same model but with anti-glare glass. No problems for me other than the unit will no longer power on with the remote... I must use the panel switch. How many hours on your unit?

I'd have to guess between 3k -4k hours of use.

I scheduled a technician for Friday to find out what's wrong.

Just to show up and diagnose: $120.

Doesn't sound too bad, but then he said "replaceable components" are between

$200-$400 each. I have the feeling I'll be seeing a hefty bill.

I picked NEC because of claims of quality & they won some award for reliability in 2004.

3.5 years and a repair?

I think I see a Pioneer Plasma in my future.

Well there are plenty of people here who have had their Pioneer fail at 2-3-4 years, as well as pretty much all the other leading brands. No maker is exempt from the occasional video board or power supply failure.

3 months now and the authorized repair center still has yet to fix my plasma.

He says the power supplied died, but is afraid just putting in a replacement PS.

It will also get fried if the panel is shorted and causing the Ps to blow up.

Which I sort of agree with, but 3 months to find this out! He says NEC isn't coming thru with troubleshooting help. These guys suck (NEC & repair center)

Repair place finally determined that the power supply was dead.

Screen was OK.

$977 to fix.

Guess who'll be shopping for a new plasma.

It seems in the early versions of these units the power supplies

are $800.

Just thought I'd bring closure to the thread. It only took 3 months.
