To all you NEC VT-45 owners, does anyone have a recommended configuration? I dont have Avia or VE yet and was wondering what settings VT 45 owners were using. I usually use a notebook to the vga port. This gives the options of Red (contrast and brightness) Green (contrast and brightness) and Blue (contrast and brightness) instead of just a color setting. Maybe too many options is a bad thing. Also interested in gamma correction and white balance. Also, do you use the black enhance option or not. I have used some test screens from the SW episode 1 dvd. Not sure if I made things better or worst. Kinda played with those, but wanted to compare with settings from other (more knowlegeable) users. Thanks in advance.

PS. Using a Da-lite model C matte white screen 6' x 8' if that helps.

Black Enhance is probably a confusing term for a lot of folks. Us HT geeks will expect that option to be similar to the "Cinema Black" option on the Panasonic RP-56 DVD player, where it reduces (improves) black levels.

On the NEC projectors, "Black Enhance" actually washes out the blacks a bit, but gives better shadow detail. That's going to be a very subjective setting.

So I probably should not have it on "Black enhance". Any other tips?

I've also stopped using the "Black Enhance" as I didn't like the results after seeing it in several "dark" movies. I have it set on "Graphic" now.

I've gone to the "White Balance" menu and reduced the Red setting to -10 and the green one to -5. THis projector really loves it's "Reds".

I have the "Video Filter" option turned on although I have yet to notice any difference with it on or off.

All this is of course subjective. I am projecting on to a white wall with a "satin finish" paint. I am trying to decide if there is any benefit to using a screen since the picture looks pretty darn good as it is now. I would also like to get ahold of the AVIA disc but am reluctant to pay 50$ if it is of little benefit for LCD projectors.

From browsing the forum the last 6 weeks I get the impression there are very few of us VT45 owners out there and as such very little tweaking advice.

I have played with different versions of Superbit movies as a way to judge picture quality but see little difference between the original (Fifth Element and Desperado) and the Superbit one.

Oh well....maybe a few more folks will try this projector and we can get some more info in the future.

Since the earlier reply I have turned off Black enhance. I thought it was the same as cinema black so I turned it on before even looking to see what difference it made. I find it does look better turned off. I am not sure which one is better, Video essentials or AVIA. I will buy one, probably not both. I find this projector likes its reds and green too. I wonder if it would just be better to turn up the blue instead of turning down the red and green. I will do more tweaks when I get some more time. With so much knowledge here, I wish someone would put together an FAQ for beginning tweakers. Just to give us a starting point. This really is a great little projector.
