I have been using my Nec VT440 for a few weeks now; probably put only 20-25 hours tops on it. Then, this evening, after watching a movie, I turned it off then back on again rather quickly. I heard a loud "pop," the projector went off and now the power and status lights are indicating a "Fan Error," according to the "Troubleshooting" part of the User's Manual.

Anyone know what this is??

Hopefully the pop wasn't the bulb (I'm not saying that it was). Did you try unplugging the projector for about 15 seconds? This will reset it. I had some issues with my first VT540's firmware and errant error reporting. Also, you have to wait 30 seconds before turning the power back on or it will give an error. If this doesn't help and no other possibilities are posted, call NEC support. They are generally really good about solving things (even if that means replacing it).

Good luck!
