What is the difference between a 2.5 way, and 3 way speaker? Looking at the Paradigm Studio series. The 60 is a 2.5 way, and the 100, is a 3 way. Anyone owned a 2.5 way, and gone to a 3 way? Or vise versa?Notice any change the sound quality? Have less midrange with 2.5 way? New ht guy. Hope you can help.

Never heard either of the speakers, but here's the concept.

2.5way:

The tweeter plays from 1.5khz on up (just throwing out numbers)

Woofer 1 plays from 1.5khz and down

Woofer 2 plays from 500hz and down (used to help reinforce the lower frequencies that rolls off as the speaker goes from operating in 2pi space to 4pi)

3way:

Tweeter plays from 3khz on up (again just made up numbers)

Mid plays from 500hz to 3khz

Woofers play from 500hz on down.

The more important thing to worry about is how the Studio 60 sounds in comparison to the Studio 100. Forget crossover alignments because it's almost useless when trying to figure out which one sounds better than the other.

A 2-1/2-way speaker makes the most sense in a smaller venue with no sub. A little sensitivity is given up in order to weight the spectral balance towards more bass. This is moot if there's a subwoofer in the system. There are enough other variables in speaker design that I wouldn't get hung up on this one particular design parameter.
