Whatever speakers sound best to YOU that fit into your budget. There are tons of options in your budget range. You simply need to start auditioning and find a sound that suits YOU. No one can tell you what you will like or what might sound good to you.

There are so MANY great brands out there.... just start perusing through the forums and compile a short list of brands that might interest you and then start giving them a listen.

As for what to definitely avoid.... on my short list would be Bose, Fluance and anything from a White Van....

Good luck.

like ive said i dont know any good repute brands and i dont know any place in my area where i can go and demo out diff types speakers, except best buy , circuit city, which only sells ****** audio equipment if im not mistaken.
Check out the SVS SBS-01 system . Specifically, the 5.1 system with the PB12-NSD at $1200, maybe $1300 including shipping. The PB12-NSD offers superb performance on home theater, great low frequency extension.
Sure bets in your price range:

Available at audio stores, some also from internet dealers:

Monitor Audio Silver

Def Tech

Energy RC

PSB Image Series

Paradigm Monitor Series

Available from Internet Direct Only companies:

www.aperionaudio.com
www.**********

Swan from www.theaudioinsider.com

Obviously there are over 200 alternatives, but these ones always receive solid reviews, and are favorites here.

If going ID I would start with Aperion, as they would pay the freight back to them, if you don't like their sound.

But, if you don't like them they don't pay shipping back...I have seen so many mixed reviews and comments about Axiom...
You will love them.

I have not seen too many who felt the need to return them.

Just go to the Axiom forum http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/ubbthreads.php and ask all the questions you want.

I have received 2 of my 5 speakers from Aperion, but they sound great so far. I did like polk but they were very large at least the ones I got but if i had the space and power for it..it sounded good. Anyway Aperion has the 30 day trial with return shipping paid just in case you don't like it...u really can't go wrong to give them a shot. BTW their customer service online and on the phone is excellent.

Just because you love them, doesn't mean he will love them. Different people, different tastes. From the ID's Axiom receives probably the most mixed reviews here, and professionally, some like them, some hate them.

In the Axiom forum you will hear good things, why??? Because it is the Axiom forum, by Axiom owners. Look for different opinions. Not telling the OP not to go with Axiom, just warning him 'cause they don't pay freight back, and your tastes in sound, room acoustics, and other factors play in wether you like a speaker or not.
