Hey all:

I have a Polk Audio Center channel speaker model number CS245i that has a defective crossover. I am not getting any sound out of the tweeter, but I get audio out of the two woofers. If I bypass the crossover I get audio out of the tweeter. Is there anyway to get a replacement crossover that will be similar to OEM? I'd really rather not replace the speaker, since this will make me replace my front speakers too which I'm not ready to spend. I thought about just bypassing the crossover but I'm sure it would blow in no time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I've tried contacting Polk via email without success. Guess I'll try the phone method but I'm betting that the part won't be available anymore...

Take the crossover out. And check each component - it shoudl be prety easy to find which part failed.

As gooki said, it can be fixed. If this is something new for you and you need help, take out the crossover. Take a couple good pictures of it and post them here. There are enough people on this forum that can look at the picture and point you in the right direction on what and how to test.

Polk may sell new crossovers, but you're better off just replacing either the HF cap and/or resistor.

Does the resistor look burnt? Is the capacitor bulging or leaking?

For replacement parts, check out Partsexpress.com, their Dayton line is a good value and will probably be a improvement over the original parts.

I'd be surprised it the tweeter crossover is more than a cap and a resistor or two, -or it could be just a broken wire or solder connection. If that all looks good, and you don't feel much like troubleshooting, for under ten bucks, you could just replace all the components with higher quality ones. A good pic or two of the crossover will allow us to determine the values of the components.

Thank you all for all the help! It's nice to get such good feedback. I called Polk today and the crossover was only 25 to replace, so knee t ahead and ordered it so I wouldn't have to get too far over my head with repairs, though I feel if I needed to go that route this is the place to get help. Thanks again for everyones help.
