I currently reside in the Wilmington DE area and I am looking to hook up HDTV. I currently get free standard cable through Comcast, but I have a HD-ready TV that I am interested in hooking up.

Can I purchase a cable box that will take my standard cable and decode the signals that are being sent in HDTV so I can do this without paying Comcast a cent?

Or

Am I screwed and will have to pay my cable bill.

If you have a cable ready HDTV set that has a QAM tuner, you should be able to get the OTA channels in HD that Comcast transmits without any additional expense.

If you you want more HD than the Free OTA channels that are not encrypted, you will need a cable card (and cable card set) or a HD STB.
