I just bought a new house and behind the pool what was a 2-car garage turned into an office. I had to rip out the interior and am planning on turning it into a HT/Entertainment room. The ceiling is vaulted, and the room is 20'x24'. I am going to be putting the tv on the back wall, and using the back half of the room for HT purposes, and the front half as a small bar.

Outside I have 2 Def Tech AWS6500's for poolside. Inside I am doing a 5.1 system now and am stuck between the Def Tech 800 and 1000 procinema series now and am going to use the Denon AVR-1910. Any suggestions?

Quick drawing of plans (I know I suck at computer drawing)

Ok, a few things. I would put the rear speakers on the side walls closer to the seating area. They look too far back. If I had that room, I would go 7.1. You could have speakers by the bar that could be used for music too. I would also go with a projector in that space. Why are you "stuck" between the definitives? I own definitives and like them but, just wondering what you mean by stuck. You will get more suggestions if you submit a budget.

I see a nice big space but the way you have the bar configured you are consuming 1/2 the floor space for the bar. I would think about a sit at bar facing the screen for second row seating and then run a wet bar/refreshement area hugging the wall. Put the sit at bar on casters and you could park it against the wall to create room for poker night.

I am between the def tech speakers because I am budgeting around 1600 for the speakers and sub. I have the Denon receiver already, and the Def Tech 6500's outside I already own as well. I was recommended to check out the Def Tech 800's and 100's, and I liked the good sound quality given my budget. What I am worried about is whether the sound given the room size will be anough with the 800's, or whether the 1000's would make a bigger difference. Unless there is a different set someone can recommend which would be better for the room.

Also, I have been planning to mount the tv (projection is in a future budget) center of the wall to door jamb. Should I mount it center to the entire wall and maybe go with a 7.1 and mount speakers directly to the sides of the seating area? Or since the receiver can auto adjust to different speaker distances leave it where it is but still make it a 7.1 system?

The bar idea you have looks good, I was thinking of the same idea with the on wall cabinets, just on a smaller scale. Having the movable bar sounds like a good iea, I will definately have to rethink the bar design.

Scuba:

Congrats >> I see you have caught the attention of the Grand Master. "Big" is thee man, and has likely mentored more projects than anyone on these build forums.

Big:

Oh No; I see you have graduated from a bar napkin to ruled paper..!

Also; your comments about a "rollable" bar as part of a 2nd row, a great suggestion - hope you don't mind that I may steal this tip..??
