I am planning to pick up Denon 3805 Receiver and B&W 604s / LCR 600 / 601s for my hometheater system - will also be listening to music on it. For Sub - i am looking at SVS which will come in later.

Here is my question - what would you advice with the above speaker package ?

1 - Denon 3805

OR

2 - Rotel RMB 1075 with my existing Panasonic SA XR 10 Receiver

(for those not familiar SPECS for XR 10 )

I know that the panasonice is a very basice receiver, but since i already own it, and that the amp part would be taken care of by the Rotel - What is your advice ?

I believe the XR10 doesn't have pre-outs?

The 3805 has no chance against the 1075.

My vote goes to option 2.

In fact, I would pair the 1075 to the 3805 as pre/pro (of course this plan is for the future).

Take a look a t my profile. I've ben using a 3803 and 1075 with excelent results, so you'd better wait for a future receiver-Pre/pro upgrade ;)

Start with a quality AVR, upgrade to separate amp in the future.

for a more neutral sound stick with the denon internal amps over the rotel amp.....

IMHO rotel amps are very warm but can in some situations cover up the finer details in the musical score...... (just my opinion - if you can't hear it - nevermind)

the denon amps are more neutral - some people say "dry" - but do allow for more detail......

i would suggest ultimately getting a sunfire, sherbourn, or gemstone amplifier to match up with the denon 3805 as a prepro..... would be a killer combination...... denon's excellent processing and the power of a very detailed amp......

cheers!

Option 2 doesn't seem to be a real option; the Panasonic receiver doesn't have pre-outs, unless I missed it in the specs.

So, it's option 1 by default. Of course, you could opt for a Rotel receiver instead of the 3805, if you like Rotel's performance (I do). Or, get the 3805 now and add a Rotel amp down the road.

Well - my original plan was to get the 3805 now and add Rotel Amp later, but i was wondering if it would be a good idea to pick up a Rotel now and use it with the Panasonic (I know its really not much of a receiver) and add the 3805 or another good receiver later.

The cost is also a factor for confusion / Temptation for Rotel - i can get a slightly used (almost new) Rotel 1075 for under $700 from my dealer and the 3805 for about $875 (He is authorised Denon Dealer)

Any changes in advice now with the cost thrown in ?

and really.... the strength of the panasonic XR receivers is in their digital amps..... the rest of the circuitry is nothing to write home about.....

if you plan to use a low cost receiver for this purpose - get the pioneer 1014 - about $400 or so and it comes with the advanced MCACC auto eq/room correction feature that can make a very noticible improvement in the sound in your listening space - no matter what amp you decide to use....

cheers!

The 3805 is a great receiver but the 1075 amp is just more muscular than any receiver at that price range.

I love the warm and musical sound of the Marantz so I used a Marantz SR-5500 with the RMB-1075.

A word of warning: Be prepared to spend on quality interconnects. I thought the cheap Acoustic Research cables I had were enough. I tried out more expensive cables and the difference was noticeable.

I'm saving for Analysis Plus Oval One interconnects.

and consider going with the B&W 602s over the 604s since you are getting a subwoofer. This has been discussed many times in the speaker forum.

i will respect your opinion, but i do not agree with your assessment.....

more expensive cables producing "noticeable" improvements has been the topic of more than a few threads on this forum and other forums.... with little or no resolution.....

cheers!

No problemo! :) We can still disagree without being disagreeable. So I'm assuming that you're using the most inexpensive ICs there? The Acoustic Research cables that I had were only $10 per pair. The one that I bought were $100 per pair!!!

But what's important is I'm happy with my purchase. :)

If it were my money, i'd buy the 3805 and enjoy it. I'd then consider an external amp down the road. The Pioneer 1014 is definately cheaper and a good alternative. I'm using a Pioneer Elite 52tx until mid November when i can pick up the 56txi i ordered.

The denon 3805 is a great amp but is a little bright sounding for the allready bright B&Ws....

Try the Marantz 7400 or the new 7500/8500! Better match!

Chip E: Do you think the 56txi will power a set of B&W 703’s nicely or would separates be a better solution?

Mit07: How do you like your Elite AVR and B&W performance? I was thinking about the 56txi and B&W 703 combo for 80% HT and 20% Music.

There have been several threads on this forum by 3805 owners who were not happy about its performance with their moderately demanding speakers (NHT and B&W are two that come to mind). Your 604's deserve better.

Go with plan 2, only with a receiver equipped with pre-outs, like the 1014.

Why are you calling yourself tubeguy? Wouldn't studiomonitorguy be better?

I want to enjoy music, not to hear the cold and steril CD-sound.

i used to use a tube amp in my system...... before i upgraded to the carver pro ZR amp i use now....

and i also want to hear the music.... but ALL of the music.... that includes all the details that some amps have a more difficult time in reproducing...... IMHO....

cheers!
