I held back until CEDIA, but since there wasn't a lot revealed I may have to go ahead and purchase a projector. I have read the troubles you have had and some of your disappointments. I need the light output 'cause my room is not light controlled. Question is, if you had to do it over again would you buy the same PJ? I thought maybe the Sony HS20 as well, just concerned about light output. AVS is having some deals on the 20, would you go with that or Sanyo version?
I have a similar question. Also, does anyone know if there will be a successor to PLV-70, perhaps using the upgraded epson panel used in the Sony HS20?
I've got the service manual and color uniformity calibration software for the projector, and hopefully this weekend I will find out how successful I am in dialing in a decent picture.
Keep in mind, my standards are considered by some folks as high, but I don't think it's too much to ask that a $6000 projector produces a fairly flat grayscale, and can produce a fairly uniform gray screen. My projector does neither at this point, and Sanyo says that's acceptable.
How does the image of your PLV-70 compare with your old Mitsubishi WS65905? (I got a 73905 about the same time as you got your rear projection TV. You're about a year ahead of me in upgrading, as I am now looking into putting a projector in my basement.) The reason I'm interested in the PLV-70, despite some problems with it, is that I want to illuminate a 140" screen in the presence of ambient light.
