sempron s754 2800+ at 1.85ghz

sis760gx

6600gt agp

coreavc pro 1.2.0.0 YV12 (cant run all my videos without switching to RGB32 in 1.3.0.0)

can play all 720p h264 with deblocking off, only with coreavc and cpu usage is usually around 90% with higher bitrate videos. h264 acceleration works with powerdvd 7.3 h264 in that I get about 30% less cpu usage (in drivers 93.81 and older only, newer remove non mpeg2 acceleration in xp) but vmr9 reports a constant 21fps instead of 24 even though cpu usage is ~30%. Planet earth UK 720p mkv hddvd rips play fine, but I need a bit more cpu for deblocking planet earth and dvd9 8gb x264 hddvd rips.

sempron 3100+ s754 at 2.6ghz

1024mb 2-2-2-5 183mhz

nforce4

x850xt PE pci-e

everything I've thrown at it plays fine with coreavc with full deblocking but I haven't played any h264 over 17mbps.

1024mb 2-2-2-5 at 227mhz

nforce4

1tb raid 0

8800gts

everything plays fine, even using rgb32.

keep in mind these are in MCE2005 while its recording tv in the background at ~15% cpu usage and at 1366x768 resolution. hope it helps.

I just got a bunch of 1280 x 720 h.264 files (~5GB each) and I can play them on my low-end laptop! I'd say anything around an AMD Athlon XP with any 128MB video card will easily play these files. Not sure if some h.264 files are more intensive though.

Just ran a 720p 5th Element file and I was at 34% CPU usage with an Athlon 2500XP (clocked at 2.4Ghz) and 1GB RAM, 6800GT video card. That is an OLD machine. It plays 1080p trailers at 70% CPU or less as well.

Just a hunch, but I believe I have the same 5th element as you and I just want to mention for comparisons sake that it isn't 720p as labeled but 1280x544 and very low bitrate (around 4Mbps average, 9 peak) which makes a huge difference on my machines. I get 8-46% cpu usage (~22 average) on my 2.8ghz machine depending on the scene, and the variation is a lot more noticable on my sempron at 1.85ghz at 21-65% with deblocking off. The planet earth encodes are signifigantly harder to decode with peaks around 17Mbps.

Probably is the same one man. I'm sure it is. Wonder if it looks better than the Blu-Ray version? ha ha!

Any suggestions on videos that would be a bit more taxing that I could look for to try out? Thanks.
