I've got a dedicated theater room 25'x17', with a 135" screen. I had an Optoma HD33 until I went to change the bulb, now it keeps telling me fan failure. Anyways, seen a few deals, while surfing the net. Bestbuy has an Optoma HD141x for $550, BenQ have a BenQ HT1075 1080p Home Theater DLP Projector - Refurbished for $547 and I also see a BenQ MH530 for $600., BenQ HC1200 sRGB Color Home Theater and Conference DLP Projector for $530 and the BenQ W1070 1080p Home Theater DLP Projector - Refurbished for $530. I'm also opening to other brands and options, trying not to spend more than $700. 3D is not important to me, but sports and gaming are top of the list.

Did the bulb explode on the HD33 ? Shards of glass are known to lock up a fan. If you can easily move your mount the BenQ 1070 would be my choice as it's a shorter throw. HD141 would be a direct replacement but losing 6x RGBRGB color that the HD33 had as you would need to step up to the HD35 for more $. Vivitec 1086 would be great if you can find one.

If your maximum budget is $700, you're OK with a refurbished projector and you want a clear upgrade over your current projector the best choice is a refurbished HT2050 from BenQ's Outlet online store for $647. The only problem is that HT2050s are currently out of stock so you wouldn't be able to order one tonight. But it's enough better than all of the other models mentioned so far that it's worth waiting a few days for it to come back in stock.

You were hoping for a little more response on Memorial Day weekend?

What Dave said. The BenQ 1075/2050 is a good choice but as Dave said you'd need to move your mount as the BenQs are 'shorter throw' than your HD33. I'd skip the HD141x-- the contrast is terrible and it's color wheel is more prone to showing rainbows. Epson has some solid refurbished projectors in your price range such as the powerlite 2030 for 479. The 2030 is mostly the same as the well regarded 2040 but if I had my choice between that and a BenQ 1075/2050 I'd choose the BenQ (and I did).

No! Sweden here. Great forum and I have learned alot of things from here, but I wish I could see and hear most of the speakers and so that you guys talk about that are from over there. And the same pricetags! 😉

Notice my eye roll ;) I was joking, and making light of the fact that it wasn't Memorial Day across the whole world.
