I will admit, I have always been more of a video guy over an audio guy, maybe 60/40, so my knowledge of speakers is average at best.

I have a budget of $1750.00 and would like to buy a speaker set including the following:

- 4 Floor Standing Speakers

- 1 Center Channel Speaker

- 1 Powered Subwoofer

These speakers will be located in a room with 25' ceilings and very good acoustics. Much like a concert hall or auditorium.

I will use this sytem to watch Blu-ray movies and listen to CD and iTune music.

In the past I have owned and enjoyed speaker systems from both Infinity and Polk. I recently have demoed some Klipsch and Boston Acoustic speakers and loved them.

What do you guys I recommend I consider for this purchase?

It sounds to me that you prefer speakers with a leaner sound as opposed to laid back. If you auditioned Klipsch and BA and loved them, I'd suggest giving Axiom and RBH a listen. Mordaunt-Short is also worth a look and can be had for a good price from AC4L.

What Klipsch speakers did you audition and like? Their floorstanders are going to push the upper boundaries of your budget, especially since you want to do them for your rears too.

Since you're planning on such an aggressive system, consider adding an SA-CD or DVD-Audio-capable player. It will make a setup like yours really come alive. Most movie soundtracks are front-heavy, but 5 channel music really takes advatange of those tower rears.

I listened to the Klipsch Reference Series RF-52. Having a Blu-ray player with SACD and DVDA support make regular CD's sound better?

No, neither SA-CD nor DVD-Audio make regular CDs sound better. SA-CD and DVD-Audio are multichannel music formats. They create a more natural, enveloping experience because it's - in effect - surround sound for music. You have to have special SA-CDs or DVD-Audio recordings to hear the effect.

I think you are going to need to rethink your budget if you want 4 floor standing speakers , a center channel, and a powered sub with 25' ceilings. If you like the sound of Klipsch I would go that route, especially with that space. You are going to need sensitive speakers. If it were me, I would start with 2 Klipsch RF62's fronts and then a Klipsch RC 62 center and then add an eD A2-300 powered sub (you will probably want another A2-300 down the road as well). You will come in right at budget and then you can either add another set of RF62's down the road for your surrounds or perhaps the 52's. But I also recommend looking into their bookshelf and other surround speaker options to keep the budget down. IMHO, I think it is worth stepping up to the RF62's vs the 52's. But you may want to inquire in the Klipsch dedicated thread.

BTW, what will be powering these speakers?

EDIT:

If you are not afraid of Ebay this store is selling a pair of brand new Klipsch RF82's for a good price and you would still have enough to get the RC62 center and eD A2-300 sub within your budget. You can always use some existing speakers for surrounds until you can buy the surrounds you really want.

I do not have any SACD or DVDA recordings, so I do not see that as a feature I would need. Thank you for the recommendation though

What is everyone's opinions with Boston Acoustics?

I am thinking of going with the Denon AVR-1910 or Denon AVR-2310CI. Opinion on these?

What are the rest of your dimensions of your room (ie length and width) and how far away will you be sitting from your main speakers?

BTW, I edited my post above regarding some Klipsch RF82's on a good Ebay sale.

The room is roughly 18'x18'. I appreciate the link to Ebay, however I must stick within the $1750 budget, no exceptions. Advice?

My advice to you is don't sacrifice your mains and sub at the expense of your surrounds. I would go with the cheaper Denon receiver and put as much money as you can towards your mains. You have a pretty large space to fill with sound (with those tall ceilings). You are probably going to have to make some compromises somewhere on your speakers, and you don't want to compromise too much on your center speaker or your subwoofer if you like home theater above music. For HT use, you really do not need expensive floorstanding speakers for surrounds on your budget.

How about something like this:

Klipsch RF52 (left and right pair, the speakers you demoed): $649 shipped for the pair:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Referanc...ht_2970wt_1167

Klipsch RC-62 (center channel): $379 shipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-RC-62-RE...ht_2934wt_1167

Klipsch RB10 (pair for surrounds): $269 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-RB-10-1-...ht_3368wt_1167

eD A2-300 subwoofer: $350 shipped (*note there is a wait time on this as they are on backorder):
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=407

Total: $1647 shipped to your house

You may also want to consider the Klipsch RB-81 bookshelf speaker as your mains vs the RF-52's if this is mostly for home theater. They are the same price shipped:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-KLIPSCH-RB-81-...ht_3348wt_1167

You would need stands, but you should be able to buy a pair that are still within your budget. I suspect you would be very happy with this system in that room for home theater. I would also consider adding a second A2-300 sub down the road for that space when your budget allows.
