I am currently a directv subscriber and have not yet purchased the new hdtv tivo - I understand that it is the best unit to own.

Purpose of this posting:

1. I am considering switching to dish - for foreign language programming reasons.

2. I am reluctant to do so, because I heard that Dish does not have a good TIVO type dual tuner hdtv device.

perhaps some one can comment on a possible upcoming HDTV dual tuner hard disk recorder for Dish.

In addition, I really like the ability to use two hard drives with the directv Tivo 250 and that I can actually acrchive movies in hd. If any of you know if the tivo version does or will have such an opportunity, please comment.

thank you.

audvid,

Dish Network has nothing comparable in functionality to the HD Tivo.

DirecTV is in the process of adding more international channels, so you may want to give them a few months before changing providers and/or investing more money in a provider.

Audvid,

The Dish 921 HD tuner/DVR does a good job (at least for me) and has the dual tuners. Other's have complianed about the unit but I have had no problems with it. I have never had TIVO so don't fully know what you mean by "TIVO type" but it does a solid job with some good guide search and archiving features. It does not have the ability to use two hard drives for archiving like the TIVO HD unit does.

BTW - I'm actually considering going from Dish to Comcast cable (to get local HD OTA channels) and going to the HD TIVO unit so I'd be interested in learning more about your setup and how you use and like your device.

actually, I would prefer the dish pvr functions to Tivo - mainly because I am familiar with them. Same controls (actually the same dishplayer remote works) are on my microsoft utv.

Does your 921 have dual OTA tuners in addition to the dual satellite tuners?

If you are switching over to comcast, I might be interested in buying your unit (if I do decide to go with Dish). Please email me: [email protected]

Trust me do not switch to E*. I had them for many years and just now got D*. As far as picture quality they are about the same, even though E* may use less compression on HD. As far as hardware though, E* receivers suck. They have so many bugs that its not even funny. Their HD 921 DVR has only one OTA tuner compared to two in HD Tivo.
