In advance, thank you for the feedback. If it wasn't for all the experts on this forum and your feedback average users like me would a difficult time. My question is what 5.1 on wall set of speakers I should consider for a 12'x13' room with a height of 15 feet. The room will be used mostly for movies and music (50/50). I would like to spend at most $350 to $400 with sub. The room belongs to my son and he has experienced my room set up with a KEF 3005 S and he loves it. I do not want to make that kind of investment for his room at this point. I will be providing him a Yamaha receiver that I currently have.

I did some research and found recommendations on Energy and Def Tech and others. Some of the deals that are mentioned on New Egg or Vann's for Energy are not available at this time. What do you experts recommend?

FAB68-I am trying to learn myself. So I will be checking back on this thread as well as others.

Anyways, here's a link that might help you on your search... http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1845507

You have to go all the way to the amazon checkout review page to see the discount, (with 25% off seeming to be just an okay deal)

I have posted some questions, regarding some of those speakers, on the energy thread (pg 580 posts 17383 through 17400) http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...30450&page=580

I have the Bic f12 on backorder ( http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/...er_id=!ORDERID !) and just received the Take classics (which are still in the box unopened (but now I'm thinking the Takes will not be strong enough and the sub might be too close to the walls, of the only spot offered to me, a corner). In the past 2 weeks, on newegg ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rgy-_-82269004 ), I have seen the Takes go from $150 to $200 to $179 to $229. So they change price almost every other day there. (I called and got the lower price since it had changed 2 days prior to ordering the takes)

Right now I'm am looking for office and kitchen speakers and I am starting to research the Athena LS-50 http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ATLS50 . I have no idea what these are like and I'm going to research.

I can't set up my sysyem for a couple months, and remember I am new to this. so I am NOT knowlegeable.

I'm probably just going to stick with the takes & f12 with the 5.1 coming to a total of $333. I will be checking back on this thread to see what others are saying. Good luck.

I just checked the sale on Pinnacle MB10000 Microburst speakers referenced at Dell.com.

Regardless of the picture (which shows a 4.1 system), the actual spec's say it is a 3.1 system (one LCR less than shown in the picture). Still may be a good deal, just understand what you are getting for the price.

The MB8000 is a 5.1 system, but is out of stock.

The MB10000 is a 5.1 system. If you look closely at the bar, it has 3 channels, (L, C, & R). Instead of three separate speakers, the three front channels are integrated into one bar. However, unlike one of those powered sound bars like Yamaha, etc., it has no phasing tricks to simulate wide or surround sound. The only problem with the bar may be the lack of sound envelopment in the front depending on your sitting distance because the LCR speakers are close to each other and cannot be placed like three separate LCR speakers.

But you could do some research and see if this system is any good for the $300 shipped/taxed price for 5.1 http://www.amazon.com/Paradigm-Cinem...tag=slickdeals

Looking at the specs the speakers don't go very low (125-130hz). But I'm not sure if that affects some speakers more than others.

Just an idea for you to research.

That's an amazing price on speakers that will probably sound better than something twice their original value!

Don't know if silver is your color choice though...
