Hi,

I am trying to convert from RF (coax) to S video to allow broadcast TV through my Screenplay 4800 (infocus X1). I do not presently have digital cable and was wondering if I could run the cable through a VCR and then through a composite YC transcoder?

I am currently watching DVD's through the projector S video input. If I were to convert the RF signal through a transcoder, how would I switch back and forth between DVD's and broadcast TV?

I am new to projectors and could use as much help as possible.

Thanks,

Arty

if you have digital cable, your best choice is to use the cable's STB directly using the highest form of connector you can find (Component, SVideo or composite - in that order of preference).

Your projector should have more than one input, to be able to switch from DVDs to TV.

If it has only one input, you will need a switcher or scaler to do the switching for you.

Ofer,

I currently don't have digital cable, but I think it is the way to go. Can you

recommend a good quality switcher for S video? Would you know if running your projector through a computer would provide the best picture quality?

I have a 150" diagonal Dalite screen, watching movies is like being at The

Movies. Last night my kids and some friends watched LOTR Return of the king, it was a riveting experience. I need to learn as much as possible, being a newbie is frustrating. This is FUN.

Thanks,

Arty,

I really can't recommend a good SVideo switcher - most A/V receivers will do a good job for you.

Personally, I believe scalers are the way to go (which is why I'm moderating the "video processors forum" instead of the "HTPC forum").
