Need DALLAS (Frisco) TX installer

1025 Views 26 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Ridebreck
Guys,

I wanted to know if there were any techs that you would recomend for a CRT install in the DFW area. When I my house is done, I am finnally getting my dream media center and want a CRT as the main PJ. Also, if he is not, do you recommend any ISF tech as I will want it calibrated.

Thanks,

Ivan

PS...if you guys know any dealer or person around the Frisco area that has CRT on display, I would love to see one first hand.

Have you bought the PJ yet, or do you know what you are getting?

Pretty much everyone with CRTs in show rooms around here pulled them down in the last couple years. CHT systems had one, but they are moving the showroom, so I don't know where all that is at. ( http://www.chtsystems.net/ )

To my knowledge, we don't have someone around here that will do it all (install, bull mechanical and electronic set up and ISF). Many of us around this area do it ourselves. But, to have it done, Mike Newman at CHT systems could do the installl and set up and Topp Robertson could do the ISF calibration.

You are welcome to see mine, I'm on Curt's referral list ( http://www.curtpalme.com/ReferralList_UnitedStates.shtm )

There are a number of us in this area, several of us somewhat active with occasional CRT meets. You could probably get in to see some of theirs also.

Thanks guys for all the replies.

I have not purchased the PJ yet, but am inclined towards the Barco 12 series, but could still be swayed depending on your alls recomendation. My big deal is the quality of the HD output as I have access through my Cband dish to uncompressed ESPN HD feeds, so I would love to watch those on the big screen. I am still trying to figure out where to go with a HTPC or sclaer, but I know I need to focus in on the PJ first.

Thanks for the sugessiton on the meetups as I would be very interested to see your setup. GIven that I can only see DLPs in the showoorms, it would feel better to see the product as I havent in a few years (just know it is better than the knew stuff and they havent swayed me away from that yet).

How difficult is it to do the work on it yourself as I know electronics and enjoy tweaking, but I am not by far an expert?

Thanks,

Ivan

8 or 9 inch 12 series. If 8", I have a 1208/2 I could show you.

I have FiOS which is pretty close. I'm not a big sports guy, but if you tell me to record a few minutes of something (just tell me what) on ESPN HD, I can and show you that on both PJs. BTW, it looks incredible.

PM me here or at Curt's with your email and we can set something up.

A few hours of learning, about 4-6 hours the first time you set it up, then 3-4 hours per time after that. After the first time, you'll think you have an incredible picture. After another 2 or 3 times (as you learn better), you'll be in awe of your pic. :D

So, not that hard, just have to read and follow directions.

Dave
Dave, I thought Mike Newman did it all? What would Top add that Mike couldn't do?

Satguy, Mike Newman is also a forum member here.

I do not believe Mike does a full grayscale calibration with equipment and I don't think he calibrates the whole video chain. I could be wrong, but I'm 99% sure that is true.

Dave
hey dave, would be easier if satguy and i came over the same weekend? that way you can show the newbies whats up without having to do it twice.

Not a problem. I've got your email. When I get Ivan's email, we can set it up. Edit: got it.

Dave
Well, thanks to all that have responded. I took the plunge and entered the CRT world today picking up a great Barco 1208. I will play around with it unitl the new house is done and see if i can get it installed myself.
Being a former 1208 user, Dave is probably your best source for setup tips in the area. I guess everyone failed to mention the unwritten rules of the Dallas-area CRTers. By purchasing a CRT, you must now host a local meet when everything is set up. :) Of course, you could be like Mark and take forever to get your room setup. ;)

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly who I got the PJ from as i have his old one which just happened to be the Pj I have been wanting for several years. Dave has been nothing less than great with everything by walking me through the process. Now i just wish that my house was done so that I could go ahead and hang it instead of just shooting it at a wall.

As for the CRT meetup, oh I am planning on it. It wont be till the summer as the house wont be done by then, but i am already looking forward to it. I also have C-band dish, so I will try to time it when we can get some live feeds to show off uncompressed signals.

Anybody knows who is holding the next meet?

I guess we need to find out who's turn it is. Congrats on buying Dave's 1208. You should enjoy it.
I will throw my hat in for January.

OK, here are the "regulars" you'll see at every meet:

Phil - Sony fanboy and HTPC advocate/guru

Dave - Barco fanboy and HTPC cynic

Matt - Traitor to the cause

Mark - On the road to best picture in Dallas (A long winding road without end)

:D :D :D
