I have have hunting cabin in the boonies with a decent antenna that currently gets all 5 networks, but doesn't have internet or a phone line. So what I need is a HD DVR that can record OTA using timers like a vcr or that use the free gemstar epg encoded on cbs.

The Dish/E*/Sling DTVPal DVR (aka TR-50) would probably be your best bet. It does record from ATSC sources, using either PSIP data or TVGuide/Gemstar TVGoS data to set up simple timeslot-based recordings. It has an internal 250 GB drive (though there's not yet AFAIK an expansion option for it). There are no monthly fees involved, but I believe the box itself currently runs $299.
