Need help: 4086 4203 error on Matrix Reloaded

10442 Views 65 Replies 33 Participants Last post by  Vader424242
Well, I got my first error.

After I got it, I upgraded to 1.6T22 and tried again...same thing. Hot soapy water, same thing. The disc is unscratched.

Are there any known fixes out there for this error? Does anyone know what it means?

I'm pretty unhappy right now. The SD side started fine.

I just tried Revolutions and got the same error. I popped in The Matrix and it worked fine.

Are these Ultimate Edition flippers or the single-sided Trilogy discs?
UE Flippers. I should have mentioned that earlier.
complete power of you machine (ie at the wall).

turn on - go to maintenance menu - re-initialise the player, restart and you should be fine.

failign that set you aprental conntrol to on (but at the highest level).

doignt he above has helped me get discs playing in the event of random errors on load.

Thank you for the advice. Something worked.

I did all of the above, in order, and it didn't fix the problem...at first.

I unplugged the power again, and set the "mode" on the front of the player to 1, and hit play. It started playing. I stopped it, switched it to 2, then played again and it worked.

Not sure if that had anything to do with it. If it didn't, then the parental lock then a "remove power" does the trick. I also set the "Twin Disc" to DVD (from HD-DVD) and that had no immediate effect either.

After it started playing, I stopped it, turned off parental control and played the movie fine again.

We'll see what Revolutions brings tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I have the same issue with the same discs - both Reloaded and Revolutions from the Ultimate Edition get the same error. The Matrix plays, but shows 1080i on the HD-A20

I was able to get Reloaded to play, once, after updating the firmware. When Revolutions gave me the error I put Reloaded back in and it now only gives me the 4086 4203 error.

No luck with the above tricks, any other ideas?

Thanks,

Bob

Numanoid - these are twin discs, I think with your settings you are getting the DVD layer. I tried it but I still get the error.

The twin disc setting is really just meant for when there's HD-DVD and DVD content authored *on the same side of the disc*. AFAIK, there aren't many (if any) discs actually like that out there.

However, it does appear that this setting can affect playback of flippers, like these Matrix discs. Children of Men wouldn't play for me unless I had the "twin disc" setting on DVD. Weird...

Chris
OK, thanks for the explanation. I misread the jacket. Now to get the discs to play.

I ran into the same problem last night with reloaded. I went to the setup menu and then to twin format disc section and hit dvd instead of hddvd and the film started right up. I have firmware 1.5.
Well, I ran into the problem again with Reloaded (I didn't finish the movie.)

I think the key is the Parental comtrol. Try various combos of initializing and setting the parent controls.

Good luck.
I updated to firmware 1.6 now all discs play problem free. Twin format disc setting is at hddvd.
I struggled with two different Reloaded disks till I found this thread. I have a D2 upgraded to v1.6 from 1.2, but did not initialise. I've played a dozen HD DVD (including rentals) just fine until this error with Reloaded. I reinitialised, restarted the player, and now Reloaded works fine--well once.

The next time, it would return the same error. I finally changed the parental setting, and that did the trick the second time.
Just sent an email to toshiba, hopefully this gets them to make a firmware update, since I really want to watch Reloaded in HD.
I have also experienced these error codes on Revolutions, mostly, and what I do is simply eject and reload, and the disk always loads up fine the second time, third at the most. I never see this suggestion around here, but simply ejecting and reloading seems to work for me.
Having the same problem with Reloaded. Same error message - 4086 4203.

Have been able to get playing three or four times out of about ten attempts. Resetting and opening and closing don't always solve it. Have to try the parental control and twin disc settings, which I've never touched before.

This is the ONLY HD-DVD I have had problems playing. Haven't spent enough time with Revolutions, but it played the first time I tried it.

Cruel irony, I started a separate thread on the amazing PQ of Reloaded. Guess this won't be my go to demo material afterall (at least for now).
Enabling parental control allowed my disc to play once, but not twice. I also realize now that the XA2 has no "twin disc" setting. That's an A2 thing I guess.

Correct--it is like a toggle. It seems like you have to toggle the parental setting off/on every time you play the Reloaded disc to get it to play. This sounds like a firmware problem to me. Something software switch is set everytime Reloaded is played, and gets reset by turning parental control off and then on.
Amazon is now sending me a replacement copy for delivery tomorrow. If that has the same problem (I assume it will), I'll spend more time experimenting with the parental control switch.

Rice - Your work around is interesting, although I question how I was occasionally able to get Reloaded to play (after the first time) without messing with the parental control setting.

Does upgrading to 1.6 affect this problem on the XA2? I have been sticking with 1.5 because (other than on this disc) it works perfectly for me (don't need bass management).
Getting this error with 2nd copy of Corpse Bride from Netflix. First copy had the s**t scratched out of it - gotta be a BD "viral" fanboi out there. Netfix should be able to identify him and hang the b**tard.

This copy, not badly scratched, just presents the error code. This is a D2 with 1.6. There seems to be a 2nd play bug.
