Now that my wonderful kid has scratched up another DVD, I need to find a way to save the rest of my/his DVD collection (100+). I'm looking to either:

- Back up my DVD to my computer for viewing

- Make a backup copy and use it (saving the original as "golden")

So, my questions are:

- How do I back up my DVD to my computer? How much disk space do I need for each DVD?

- I understand that I can make a backup copy of a DVD to DVD-R using a DVD writer. Will any DVD writer work? Also, can my DVD-R play on any DVD machine. I have a Panasonic and a Toshiba DVD players.

While I prefer the first option, hard disk space and the number of disk drives are limited. So, I may go with both options. Most frequently used DVD will be stored on computer, while less frequently used DVD will be backed up on DVD-R.

The bottom line is I want to save the original DVDs as "golden" and only use the "replaceable" backup, either on Hard disk or DVD-R.

Thanks for all your help.
