need help choosing sub config

help me find a sub

1. My budget is around $700, but I don't mind buying one and then saving up for another one for dual subs.

2. Size limit is probably two feet.

3. Room is 2800 cubic sq ft

4. Primary use is HT.

5. I want to hear the rumble when bomb explodes or THUMPS when monsters stomp their feet.

6. Not to concern about appearance.

7. No rush.

When requesting assistance for a sub purchase several pieces of information are critical in order for people to provide relevant suggestions. Check out this thread for the type of info you'll likely be asked by anyone who replies.

Also if your drawing is accurate,,,, first thing you will want to do is move the couch forward away from the back wall a couple feet at least (but don't place it in the middle of the room or bass will have nulls). Having it against the back wall can cause a considerable amount of boomyness.

I would look at the HSU VTF3-MK5 or the Monolith 12" THX Ultra. Both are ported to give you the low end thump for movies, and can be plugged for music if you wish. The Monolith goes on sale sometimes but its also out of stock often.

Most people on the forum will recommend that you buy the best single sub you can afford, and then add a 2nd down the road when budget permits.

For placement do the sub crawl, which is literally crawling around your room while playing bass heavy content and then picking where the bass sounds the best. That's the place to put the sub.

PlanetAVS answered your question as i would have. It looks like finding a good spot will be pretty easy in your room. Imo, if one sub to start,,,, i'd be trying to get the sub closer to your front soundstage as opposed to beside your MLP, then if you add a second there are several dual sub configurations that will work including one at the front 1/4 wall and the second at the opposite rear 1/4 wall. But once a second is added do yourself a favor and get set up with REW and measure the response in your room. This will make a pair of ok subs often sound better than a pair of really good subs not properly set up.

You have 15' to your TV so i'd start by pulling your couch at least a foot off the wall maybe two before doing the sub crawl. Don't ever think your going to get it perfectly right the first time, non of us do, so take your time and enjoy the process which is a part of this hobby. You will continue to learn as long as your interest is there and the end result will be worth it.
