Had 8 inch versions of these in wall speakers at last house. In our new house, we will use a small room for our HT until we can build a dedicated in the basement. Room is 12x12. View distance is 10 ft. RS would be approx 5ft to center of sitting position (two seat recliner), LS approx 7ft from same point. Plan on using current Onkyo sub.

I was thinking with such a small space, I probably only need the 5 1/4 speakers for my fronts and surrounds. Should I use 2-way or 3-way? If a combo of such, what?

Thanks

With a room that small, yeah, 5.25" speakers should do the job, unless you're not planning on having a decent subwoofer. Just make sure the the tweeters on all 5 speakers are pivoting in towards the listening area. Are you limited to in-wall, or is in-ceiling an option?

I've never heard Monoprice speakers, so I don't want to try recommending any in particular. Since it's for a home theater, I'd suggest going with higher end speakers with a good tweeter and decent crossover. 2-way should be fine though. Have you thought about going with Kevlar speakers?

The ones I was looking at are kevlar. In-ceiling is not an option.

Looks like the 2-way have a pivoting tweeters, whereas the 3-way do not. My receiver is 130 watts/channel at 6 ohms, which might be a problem.

Center: (4881) is MAX: 100Watts, RMS: 50Watts 8ohms

3-way: (7606) is MAX: 120Watts, 60 Watts Nominal 8ohms

2-way (4099) is MAX: 100watts, 50 Watts Nominal 8ohms
