I've have a HTPC running PowerDVD movie software for my Blu-Ray drive with a ATI 4850 (HDMI with Audio) but I need audio to go to my non HDMI receiver and want to use the optical out on my Gigabyte GA965-DS3 motherboard. But I can't seem to get any usable signal out of the optical out to use in my Onkyo 3100 system. The Onkyo can utilize pcm, and can decode DD and DTS but I don't get anything out. I tried going direct to my TV and it also got nothing from my HTPC so I think the problem is in the HTPC.

Any ideas? Does the Video card audio mess with the MB SPDIF out?

first check in windows, control panel, sound, whether the digital spdif is active. Then in powerdvd, click on configuration (it should be a little screwdriver/wrench symbol on the bottom bar) OR press ctrl+c. Go to the audio tab. In the speaker environment menu, select "use S/PDIF" or whatever is equivalent in your computer. Also change output mode to the correct setting for S/PDIF. That should work.
