Hi,

could somebody help me, I want to upgrade my main speaker. I use whaferdale mfm-5 now. My budget is $1000. I use the system 75% on music (JAZZ, POP) and 25% HT. I'm thinking about DIVA 5.1, maybe paradigm studio 40, or dynaudio audience (bookshelf). I need a clear high and mid, tight bass (does not have to go very low, I'll add a sub someday). My receiver is Harman Kardon AVR-210 (enough power?)

Any advise?

thanks

The Paradigm Studio Reference 40's are outstanding speakers in that price range. I have four of them, 2 mains + 2 surrounds, with a Studio/CC and a PW-2200 and couldn't be happier for the money. I don't have any experience with the Diva's, but many people also rave about them.

I just recently concluded auditioning new speakers. The finalists were Paradigm Studio/40 and Dynaudio Audiance 52. It was a very hard decision. But the Studio's got the final vote.

I have to admit that part of my decision to go with the 40's was the cost factor. (I found a dealer willing to discount them almost 17% off MSRP.) Never-the-less there were also sonic reasons. Although I think the Audiance had an edge with respect to the upper frequencies (a little more articulate), I found there to be more midrange detail, more 'presence' with the Studio's. Also, since I will be using the speakers for 80% HT / 20% music, I preferred the wider soundstage I perceived from the Studio's.

Do some serious critical listening (of course with your own CD's) and read all the reviews you can find. (I actually couldn't find that many on the Audiance, but reviews of the Studio's were abundant). They are both excellent speakers in the
